Does anyone know how to get a second crack at SWA if you are in the 80% that didn't get it the first time?

P.S. Besides...becoming an IP, flying airplanes, breathing, etc. I'm looking for how to GET the interview...not pad my resume.

Hope this helps. I have interviewed three times and am hopeing for the fourth soon.
All I did for the next interview is update my info on the on-line app. You have to wait one year from your latest interview to update, but that is all it takes. You will be put into the running with everyone just as you did the first time.....It took about nine months for my last call to interview after I started updating my app.....I have been updating for three months this time and have not heard anything.......patiently waiting........

Good Luck!

My hat is off to you & thanks for allowing SWA a chance to look at you again. Perseverance is a trait that SWA admires & you are certainly showing it. Hopefully a year from now you'll look back on this post with a smile and be wearing a SWA uniform. Regardless, you're to be respected as a professional aviator for pursuing your goals....good luck & Happy New Year.

hey wake...who'd you fly the 227 for? I've got about 640 in it with Merlin Express many moons ago.

Splinter, why do you think becoming an IP is padding your resume? Or did I read that wrong?

Did you listen to the Podcast from Lindsey from the People Department that was posted on here? She said the very thing I posted on here about a year ago. They are looking for pilots, (not all) that have leadership experience. That includes Check Airman, Instructor Pilots, or at the very least being on a committee of some sort. Stay away from anything controversial if you can - like grievance or arbitration committees. Try the safety or professional standards committee.

Although I do not think there is a box to check for Committees, there is a box for Check Airman and Instructor Pilots. They check those boxes when they search from the back end of the system.

I know that not everyone can be a Check Airman or Instructor Pilot, so that is why I suggest getting some other form of leadership experience.

Just my two cents...

If you want to be a discount airline pilot, why not give Mesa a try?

WakeTurb -

I hope you get called dude, but this really frustrates me! I've "patiently waiting" for my first chance since my paper app in '02! I've been updating my e-app app twice a month since it went online! What gives!?! If anyone has some insight please let me know!

when I was trying to get an interview I spoke with the MDW chief pilot he asked if there was any chance of becoming a check airmen I said no due to seniority but I probably could become an instructor. His advise was absolutely not build time leadership as PIC is viewed more important in the board than instructor pilot.

The post I made is directed at both military and civilian pilots, hence the IP comment. I agree that a civilian should not leave the line to instruct. But I just worked with someone who does that at the same time in his company, which is a Part 135 freight opeation (his title is company flight instructor).

The point, no matter what the situation, is to do something that makes you stand out from the other pilots applying for the position.

how do you become check airman without being instructor pilot first?

I dont work at SWA and the MDW CP is much smarter than me, but not for nothing, how can "IP Time" NOT help you? Its PIC time anyway

If she asked nice enough, I'd plow her. But not with her husband in the house, that just wouldn't be right.

I have plenty of clients who have not been IPs and were Check Airmen. It really depends upon where you work...the ones I can think of right away were at regional airlines. I also know of several AWA pilots that were never IPs that are Check Airman.

Interesting - she looks a bit like Mariah Carey....at least when she was thinner than she is now...
