How long from app to interview at SWA.

I have a friend that just applied at SWA. I'm wondering how long he can expect to wait for the interview call.

He is not type rated yet. He has about 10,000 total time with a whole bunch in the 737. Only a two year degree.

So for you. How long from app to interview and your approx qualifications.

Without the type, I wouldn't be holding my breath, regardless if your "friend's" time includes "a whole bunch in the 737".

They have MANY typed applicants, and those without the type, regardless of other qualifications, go to the end of that line. Right, wrong or otherwise, that's the way it is.

To answer your question directly, with a type, you could get the call as quickly as a week after you apply to those who have applied since it was originally opened on 12 Jan 04 & still haven't been called. Good luck,

I got a call 24 hours after I got my type. Three weeks later I'm doing the interview. Now I'm a poolie. If you want to fly for SWA, stop screwing around, get your type. Go to HPA!

Do ya think that maybe the P3, C12, T34, and T44 time might have helped a little? I've got a whole lot of time in narrow body airliners operated under121, but the type doesn't seem to have made much difference for me.

Please don't misunderstand. I just don't want some poor slob to rob food from his kids in order to buy a 737 rating until he meets some of the other "qualifications".

Unless SWA hires every interviewee who walks through the door with a type, that's a big and rather expensive gamble to take.
 
I went to HPA nearly one year ago (Jan 04) and applied in July (one year remaining in the military).

My phone is silent yet I remain hopeful.
 
Applied 01/04, typed in 06/04, called 6 days later, interview 07/04, call to continue 09/04, pool 10/04, class date... 02/05?

At the interview I had 4000 TT, 2500 PIC Turbine Part 121 (turboprop only), 3200 Turbine TT, Check Airman, 737 Type Rating.

For me I am convinced the interview came about quickly for 2 reasons, being a check airman and having a type. Based on my fellow company pilots it appears that you can subsitute check airman with indoc instructor, sim instructor, CRM instructor etc. with the same results... an interview.

If I had advice to give it would be to continue to build PIC Turbine, obtain a 737 type rating, and always attempt to do more than the average line pilot in terms of your company duties.

I've noticed a common thread amongst some SWA applicants. It seems to me that one might get called sooner for an interview if they put the application in when they don't yet have the type, then updating the application after getting the type rating. This is assuming all things being equal in qualifications - for regionals guys, a 737 type, 2000PIC turbine and check airman status, or for military guys, 2000TT with 1200 PIC turbine. Seems lots of guys get called within a week or so of adding the type rating to their application.

I could be wrong - I'm just a casual observer of the process from having so many friends apply there.

I've done a lot of extensive, post heavy check, functional test flying. Would anyone (chase?) care to comment on how to reflect that experience on the online application?

BTW, the check flights I conduct are not just empty test hops to prove that the airplane flies normally, they include the entire envelope, stuff that you never experience in line flying. We test from: take off configuration stall indication up to overspeed warning in a dive and everything in between. That's got to be worth something. I hope, I hope, I hope.

ENIGMA: I've done a fair amount of that stuff as well, among other things that I believe would prove a benefit to the company. I don't know how you'd reflect that other than in an interview. Of course that's what we're trying to get.
The folks at SWA HR are good people, have a good plan, and work smart in their efforts to bring the right kind of people in at SWA.
That said, it sure isn't easy being patient. I just keep chanting to myself, "This, too, shall pass." I throw a little prayer in their at the end that it passes on to a call for an interview.

That's a good point. Here's an idea: Edit your application by REMOVING THE TYPE, then a few days later edit the application again and ADD the type! Ya never know!!

Being a casual observer also...

To those who feel there maybe a Da Vinci code for getting the call for an interview...I'm sure there is a case to be built for any theory out there. As has been said many times your resume is your resume, submit what you have flown and in what aircraft with the various job titles as they apply & sit back & wait...that is the toughest part no doubt.

Deleting one's type & adding it later only will hurt in my opinion if in fact the very day you take the type off & SWA runs a sort for a type & your data would've warranted an interview, you miss out. For the conspiracy theorists who say you have nothing to lose, well you may but that is only my opinion.

When you get to the interview & see the breadth of experience, job experiences & ages you will see the only common thread with the applicants is their red tie & dark suit....they are all very very different but they will have an awful lot of in common with the many folks in the pool waiting for the call to come for an interview...of course they would, there are many more of you than they are at the interview!!! Trying to jury-rig the system to get a leg up on calling is a great exercise in detective work but probably will lead to more frustration when your plans don't work out....same song, second verse...add PIC time, add job titles where appropriate (chief bottle washer isn't one) and update your app frequently....I've changed my view on this & now I recommend doing it as frequently as you wish to since the various sorts and when they are done are never known....if you have to log on to a computer for a daily fix (like me:) ) do it there & update your info.

For those who wish to dissect the process & crack the "code", good luck....just don't go behind the curtain where the man is standing, ignore the wizard....
