Looking at putting out resumes soon and was wondering how Air Wisconsin looks? How is their salaries and how quick is upgrade? Are they in trouble with United since I saw they had to bid for their own routes?

The problem is that AWAC only feeds UAL and UAL is in bankruptcy. It's not that AWAC is in trouble with UAL but rather that UAL is in huge financial trouble and is trying to reduce costs even more and using the bidding process to muscle more concessions from AWAC. Until the contract issue is resolved a new hire should view AWAC as a temporary thing.

Upgrade.....LOL........

About 4-5 years.

I second that

It is a good place to be. We are having a few issues with our scheduales right now. But the work rules are good and the pay although not what it was a year ago isn't too bad. However, I agree that new hires looking for a first airline may want to wait until we find out about this whole UAL contract thing. It probably won't mean anything, but ya never know. My biggest fear is that U fails in the early first quarter of next year and MESA comes crying with 80 some rj's begging to fly them for anyone. Undercutting everyone, another step down.

Oh by the way upgrade like any conract carrier is depends on growth. Right now there is nothing planned. However i know we are waiting to bid on the NW Airlink thing when a flying bid becomes available. So who knows. Good luck with whatever You decide

Turbinepilot, why don't you put out your resumes and see who calls you? It's nice to think that every company wants you to fly for them, but thats not really the case. I don't think there is a pilot shortage. Get your stuff out, interview, and see if you get hired. Then worry about everything else.

Send resumes to every single Part 135/121 operation you can find. As the interviews start coming in, go to all the interviews, when and if you get an offer, then do the research on whether its worth taking the offer.

In the meantime, attend the interviews, get interview experience. If your #1 choice is Skywest for example, be happy if you go to 10 interviews before interviewing there because if you do, you'll have a lot of interviewing experience and you'll radiate with confidence during the interview.

Turning down job offers doesn't go on any official record nor does it burn your bridge with that company. The interviewing experience is priceless.

So what happens if U actually DOES fail? You worry about Mesa... That they'll do whatever they have to do to keep their airplanes flying.

What does AWAC do, then? Just throw up their hands and say "we give up"? Or does the company do whatever they have to do to keep THEIR airplanes flying?

Does the AWAC pilot group say "not one job, not one dollar" when their company has NO code share, and tries to get concessions to make them more competitive in bidding for other flying? ANY flying?

It's really a shame that things have progressed the way they have. AWAC has always been a top notch national carrier. I spent three yrs of my career working with some of the best pilots and f/a's in the industry. AWAC at that time was not a company that everyone thought build time and get out. I do hope that they can make it out of this mess without being dealt another round of pay cuts.

Suggestion. If you are not already at MESA go there. You will be happy for you have the same attitude.

Their rampers in ORD SUCK!!
I second that. I've flown on them twice in the past week, both through ORD. The gate was open, but we sat for 20 min. waiting for them to come park us.
Leaving we sat for 22 min. waiting for a crew for the pushback. The flight crew and FA's were good though.

This is just my opinion, but I think the owners would prefer to get out of the business when faced with running another Mesa, bottom feeder, type of operation.
