How I feel about the signing bonus....

Getting Screwed by skeds....comes with the job

Getting screwed by managment.....another day at the office

Getting screwed by your MEC.....PRICELESS!

I fear we can whine, bitch, moan and complain, but they will do it anyway.

They are all captains. "It's the only fair way" will be the mantra. All they are doing is pissing off the least important pilots in their eyes while lining their pockets.

Just wondering can anyone show anywhere in history where F/O's got the same or even close to Captains in a signing bonus or retro pay? Every contract has considered seat and longevity. But wait for most it's their first ALPA job and they never bother to read any contracts, sometimes not even their own!

So you would support a different method if I could find some examples? This is your argument?

Or are you SIMPLY a captain who want's his?

I hope all who are not happy with the bonus payout method would consider this:

The big problem is that the MEC did not move quicker to kill the previous rumors about the payout method. It gave everyone a chance to get married to the idea and now the bubbles are busted.

We all need to sit back and really think about this.

Is it fair that a 5 year FO would get the same amount as a 18 year CP?

Is it fair that a senior FO gets so much less than a fairly junior CP?

The answer to both is obviously no.

But with that in mind I would submit to all that this method does somehow manage to accomplish the payout with respect to seniority and seat position. And in this industry seniority and seat position pretty much rule. It just happens to depend where one sits in this big totem pole we've installed ourselves in.

We fight really hard to impose seniority systems on airline managements who would much rather promote, pay, and assign positions based on what they would consider a "MERIT" (read suck, spit or swallow) system.

Now all of a sudden we want to throw that seniority system away? And before you prejudge my opinion, please know that I lost about $1,500.00 between the rumored payout method and the one being floated now.

The fact is seniority and seat must figure into this for it to be fair and equitable. It's a shame the MEC did not make that extremely clear from day one. But they have had their hands full. Perhaps the error was ours in believing the equal payout story.

Maybe it was a man-on-the-grassy-knoll plot by management to create dissent within the ranks, distracting us all from the more important TA shortcomings??????

what is the difference between retro pay and the signing bonus is approximate dollars.

I have a few questions for all of you posting here at Fightinfo (NOT misspelled) about how the union screwed you.

1. What's your motive of posting this here?
2. If your audience is the ASA pilot group, are you aware that we have a private ASA only message board at the ALPA site?
3. Do you really think you'll change the outcome?
4. Do you think you have a majority?
5. Have you considered that your whining, childish tantrums may be adversely affecting the SkyWest drive?
6. Why do you have such a sense of entitlement?
7. If your motive is to convince pilots to shoot this down, do you really think you'll get more money next time?

This childish whining and back biting needs to stop. Do I think it would have been more fair to simply base it on the contract duration? Of course. It would have given me more money too. However, it's left up to the reps you elected, and it's your choice is trust them or recall them. But this worthless public bitching and whining needs to stop. You're making our entire pilot group look like a bunch of jackasses.

So, if you're going to get screwed anyway, why not have some cash in your pocket. I don't see any problem with 'signing bonus.

There are whole bunch of other [non-aviation] employers who offer signing bonuses. My friends who will not even graduate till December from the Nursing school has been offered her first job (already) for $52K with $15K signing bonus.

He is. Just ask him. Didn't you know that bitching on Fightinfo is the cure to all that ails the industry?

Sweet! OMG, she's like such a hottie, dude. I wonder if she likes the Dave Matthews Band?

It's funny. The pilots that have relationships don't air their dirty laundry to others but some pilots think that this is normal. I guess it takes years for some people to grow up and learn but they won't be here that long because they will be going to a MAJOR. This place s just a stop over.

Get over it...It won't change anyway.

Right now the most important part is to focus on the contract language, read and re read it, ask questions to your reps about things you don't get, go to the road show, and vote on it...

Just so I get credit here because I agree with that post--my flightinfo name is Shelton--which also happens to be my last name. First name is Jonathan and the middle one is Lee. Ill give you my address and phone number if you want it.

Now with all that settled:

I think the distribution of the money is absolute crap. While I am on the record--the decision to withhold the solution to the formula for the payout is ridiculous. It causes us to try to plug in our own numbers coming up with answers that are most likely incorrect(although I do give thanks and credit to the guy on the alpa board for giving it a shot). What further irritates me is that there are MEC guys walking around with the rough estimate--POST IT ON THE INTERNET--or better yet EMAIL IT(It is 2007)! Don't make me find you or call you or write you a letter! Its just not that hard guys.

Oh, one other thing, based on the things I have observed as of late dealing with this contract. I do not ever want to hear again that the company does not have its "@!$?" together. Perhaps it is true, but neither does the other side.
