I'm just wondering what the general consensus among the NWA pilots is regarding this deal. NWA is using company money to help bankroll another carrier instead of investing the money into NWA after the NWA employees took concessions to help keep the company running. They're basically using your money to buy a minority, passive stake in a competitor. Do you feel that it's worth it to keep AirTran out of MKE or would the money have been better invested to improve NWA?

I think most NWA pilots are interested in protecting our turf. Defending MKE is taking care of the backyard.

Why?

NWA is using company money to help bankroll another carrier instead of investing the money into NWA after the NWA employees took concessions to help keep the company running.

Oh.

You believe the two events are linked. It appears the investment has something to do with the airline business, as opposed to say...upgrading the water-boarding stations in the Pilot Lounges.

They're basically using your money to buy a minority, passive stake in a competitor. Do you feel that it's worth it to keep AirTran out of MKE or would the money have been better invested to improve NWA?

I'm getting a whiff of "agenda" here.

Here's the deal: NWA management is infested with amoral bean-counting money manipulators. They are abject failures at leading employees. They are NOT, however, stupid at money matters. The move to buy the Golden Share in CAL (March, '98) from the very same TPG, was brilliant.

Actually I don't have an agenda I was just wondering what you all thought. I know that there are some bad feelings between labor and managment at NWA and I wondered how this would be viewed. I really don't know enough to determine whether the investment in MEH to keep AAI away would be more beneficial than investing that money in NWA. As for the TPG investment in CAL, I agree, it was a smart move. MEH is a different case though, they are not in Chapter 11 and the price paid to the shareholders was about 60% higher than the price of MEH stock prior to AAI going public. MEH's quarterly results this year have been worse than last year, especially last quarter where most carriers did better than the previous year but MEH was 45% lower. Where is the bargain for TPG here and how do they intend to get their investment plus profit out of this?

Heyas,

I hate to make a bad pun, but the most common reaction among NWA pilots is "meh".

They see what happened with DAL and VJ. Heck, DAL practically financed VJ by giving away those DC-9s only to be used in their own back yard. They'd have been MUCH better off as beer cans, as far as DAL was concerned.

NWA guys are mindful as to not letting the weeds get too big.

Oh, and before some Tranny guy gives me a rash about "AirTran is NOT ValueJet". Well, it was and AirTran as you know it today wouldn't be around if wasn't.

Nu

Hey Nu

I'm glad you are proud of working for one of the worst managed airlines in the business. I worked there for many years, as did my wife, brother, and parents. I feel sorry for you...

Just bringing up the word Valuejet shows your ignorance. Although I think it was a good move for NWA, you are a dunce...

Golly! You and your entire family were all pilots at Northwest?

That's impressive!

Inaccurate and totally non-germane to the discussion...but impressive!

The etymology of the name "AirTran" is clearly writ. Before you apply another word...say "Dunce", you might want to check this out:

"After the large amount of negative publicity surrounding the Flight 592 incident, ValuJet Airlines suffered serious financial problems. On July 11, 1997, ValuJet announced it would merge with the much smaller AirWays Corp., the owner of Orlando, Florida based AirTran Airways. In November of 1997, AirTran announced it would move its headquarters to Orlando from Atlanta; on November 17, 1997, AirWays Corp. and ValuJet completed their merger and the name ValuJet was dropped."

i think it is a race to see who has the more dysfunctional family:

Red tail or
AMR

my vote is for AMR. i know we were a loving family. i know the twa folks appreciate the family. i know us chicken pilots appreciated the love from mainline.

why does the compass pointer point the wrong way on the one side of Northwests paint job? Do they not understand a compass pointer and which way NW is?

I didn't know NWA flew AVRO's and SF340'S. I bet you had NWA CREW tags festooned all over your luggage and told people who would listen you worked there.

FWIW, I'm neither proud nor ashamed of working at NWA - it's a paycheck. I do not derive my sense of self worth from my employer. Yes they are a bunch of mean spirited parsimonious skinflints. I'm sure our EMT has special box seats reserved in hell.

That all said NW will be around long after AAI, JB, and others are long forgotten names in the dustbin of airline history......

Pretty funny stuff, Chubby, considering none of us "dustbin" airlines have had to drag our ass through bankruptcy. . . . . . I'd say we still have at least 9 lives, while you're down to 8 or less.

PS., As a 6th year AAI CA, I'm making more by far than any DC9 CA on your property . . . . Maybe NWA should buy AirTran, and you could ask to "move up" to our contract.

Not making less than you, Crusty. You even off probation yet? I thought United was the shizz for you . . . . guess you changed your mind and squeaked through the process at Fedex, huh?

I know it still stings that you were turned down by AirTran, but considering that almost all of your 47 posts on flightinfo are in AirTran threads, it's pretty obvious that you haven't really put it behind you . . .

I would suggest some more counseling and anger-management sessions . . . . after all, I'm sure Fedex will pay for it.

Welcome back to flightinfo, you basement-dwelling, Barbie-doll playing, flute up-your-bizness-at-band-camp, AirTran-pilot-hating She-male. Bet they love you at Fedex . . . . . :erm:

Have a nice life . . . .

All you have to do is click on his screen neame, and select "find other postings by this person". . . and let the electrons do the work.

You can find out all you need to now about ol' Crusty in two easy mouse clicks . . . . he's basically an "AirTran stalker" so it doesn't take a Dr. Phil sob session to figure out why.

.

Dude...you're a d!ck...

Must rub off from our management.....not that I really give a rat's potoot about what you think.

Here's looking foward to AAI getting thier as womped in IND ass well.

My God....

Please, call me "Occam" or "Razor". No reason to get too formal here.

Quoting Wikipedia.

Try to keep it in context, Einstein. The referenced post asserted that connecting "ValueJet" to "Airtran" was stupid.

If you have uncovered any factual errors in the passage I posted, I'm assuming you're prepared to address them?

[cricket...cricket]

Yes.

there is too much alpha male pissings going on here.

when are the your mama jokes gonna start?

Air tran 6th year Capt. $124 hour

NWA 6th year DC 9 Capt. $118 hour
NWA 12th year DC 9 Capt. $124 hour

Does this equal more by far than any NWA DC 9 Capt. on the property ?

You're just looking at payrates. You've got to look at the entire CBAs. Our average guy credits about 1150-1250 hours a year, plus a 10.5% B-fund.
