AirTran Holdings, Inc., Presents New Offer For Midwest Air Group, Inc.
Tuesday August 14, 4:30 pm ET
- After Urging from Midwest Shareholders, AirTran Increases Bid -

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI - News) the parent of AirTran Airways, today announced that, at the request of Midwest shareholders, AirTran has increased its offer for Midwest Air Group (Amex: MEH - News), to $16.25 per share in a negotiated merger transaction.

The offer includes $10.00 per share in cash and 0.6056 of a share of AirTran common stock. Based on the closing price of AAI on August 13, 2007, the total value of AirTran's increased offer represents approximately $445 million.

"Owners of Midwest recognize the overwhelming benefits of forming a truly national, low-cost, efficient carrier that will add flights, increase jobs and lower fares," said Joe Leonard, AirTran Airways Chairman and CEO. "Midwest's shareholders are concerned that the acquisition of Midwest by a private equity firm, along with Northwest Airlines, will block competition, raise fares, reduce employment levels and reduce service.

"There is very serious concern among Midwest stakeholders that their interest and those of Midwest employees and communities will not be well served by the proposed acquisition of Midwest by the private equity/Northwest group and that, in any event, antitrust issues may prevent a deal with Northwest from ever closing," Leonard said. "Clearly, our increased offer represents more value and the best course for the future for Midwest owners, employees and customers."

How many hours of actually flying does this "average" equate to?

Probably somewhere in the 850 hour range. Ty could give you a more accurate answer, since he's been here for a while.

Ok so there are more employees at NWA than pilots. I was a cleaner, ramp rat and mechanic before I went on to becoming a pilot. My parents came from the Hughes Airwest family(if you can remember that), my bro was a mechanic, and my wife was a flight attendant. So don't try to get all smart on me.

I was only firing back on what was an idiotic remark about Valuejet. The media and the FAA really spun that whole ordeal and I guess you can believe what you want.

BTW, wait till all your(NWA) labor groups start fighting for the money back. NWA will be in such sorry shape you will be looking at this thread with your tail between your legs.

No Such Animal

Air tran 6th year Capt. $124 hour

NWA 6th year DC 9 Capt. $118 hour
NWA 12th year DC 9 Capt. $124 hour

Does this equal more by far than any NWA DC 9 Capt. on the property ?
There's no such thing as a 6 year Capt at NWA. Six years would be a lower third block holder FO. Twelve years is pretty close though.

I know it still stings that you were turned down by AirTran, but considering that almost all of your 47 posts on flightinfo are in AirTran threads, it's pretty obvious that you haven't really put it behind you . .
.

If I do work at FDX and I had been turned down by Airtran I really think it would be easy to put it behind me.

I would suggest some more counseling and anger-management sessions . . . . after all, I'm sure Fedex will pay for it.

Welcome back to flightinfo, you basement-dwelling, Barbie-doll playing, flute up-your-bizness-at-band-camp, AirTran-pilot-hating She-male. Bet they love you at Fedex . . . . . :erm:

Ty Boy, I have some vacation this month and wouldn't mind paying the ATL a little visit. What do you say we get together for some counseling, just you and I, down in the ATL or how about your beach house. What do say??

That all said NW will be around long after AAI, JB, and others are long forgotten names in the dustbin of airline history......
I remember hearing similar boasts from Pan Am, Eastern, and TWA. Everybody always thinks their airline is untouchable.

Concern for the employees and communities served...RIGHT
