I'm not saying that you should use medication and fly. The people administering the test were very nice and took all of my necessary info and that was the end of it. However, if I hadn't have had all of the info with me, I can see where it would have been a problem.

I thought they stopped even taking info when you took the test? Was this recent? I remember a long time ago having an area for prescription meds, but I don't think that's there any more.

It doesn't matter what you put down, if you had tested positive you would have gotten a phone call.

Keee-rist, what are you guys, scared of your own shadows? Grow a pair. Eat what you want. It is still a free country. If you don't abuse drugs, then don't live in fear of eating a dam.n bagel, for crying out loud. We're talking a false positive here, not a weekend crack binge.

Right on, Ty. I regularly get a Lemon Poppyseed muffin at Starbucks when I'm out on a trip. If I get tested....so what? They have ways to tell if you are a regular drug user or if it is just a muffin.

I'm not scared....you scared? ....I'm not....

Everyone loves to use the word FALSE positive. A false positive is like being accused of child molestation. Now it's up to you to prove your innocence. Better to never be in that situation. How hard is it to avoid prescriptions and poppy seeds? It's not like we DON'T jump through thousands of hoops anyhow to do what we do. Eat the multigrain instead. You guys are placing too much faith in a geek in a lab coat announcing "Yup! This guy's test is positive because of a muffin!"

His life is boring. He'd rather bust a pilot. Much more interesting.

What would have been a problem? Either you have drugs in your system or you dont?

Forgive me if I am sounding dense but I am having a hard time following you.

Thats becuase many times FALSE positives can and do occur. Thats why they spilt up your sample at collection into two seperate viles. FALSE positives actually occur more times than you think. I had a buddy at my old regional that had a false positive due to some antibiotics that he was taking due to a sinus infection. But after screening the second sample he was cleared. Not a big deal.

If you had any idea what you were talking about you would realized that the threshold for opiates has been raised so that poppyseeds will not show up as an opiate abuser during a test.

But go ahead and have it your way. Yes, that geek in the lab is out to get you and bust you for a drug test just because you are a pilot.

BrokeassPilot,
You is an idiot yo. I believe you is a crackhead and da PoPo dun gots ya. Now yo brokeass is singin' a country song bout' how sad is you. Keep drinkin' grandma's cough syrup and get off the Aviation board. Place dis on da YGBSM section and cry there. Bye bye BOUYYYYYYYYYY...

Several points.

1) Grabbing anything out of a medicine cabinet and consuming without any thought is kind of stupid. Anytime, anywhere, aviation aside.

2) Ty Webb is on the mark about being paranoid about bagels. There are two tests with random or pre-employment screening. Inexpensive pre-screening and much more expensive extensive screening that actually breaks down the questionable elements down to a specific structure. EG...Poppyseed verses heroin. They would actually find both if they were in your system.

3) Opiates and narcotics are water soluble. Usually out of your system in 24 hours. Some as long as 96 hours but wouldn't show positive after 72. Cannibus is much longer because it is fat soluble. Two to three weeks for casual users. Months for heavier users.

This profession requires a little more thought on these subjects. But not enough to control your life.

Fly safe.
