I got to go up today... I've been so burned out lately with a crappy job, messed up relationship, and so on. I even felt burned out on flying - it'd been 3 weeks since I was up. Anyway, I went to the FBO today and discovered a loose front wheel bearing on the C172, so we had to waste some time fixing that. Then the radios were jacked up (I love rentals!). By the time I was ready, I was just like screw this. It's too hot and this sucks (gotta love S. FL in July).

But as soon as I took off I was totally stoked. Everything was clicking, PBI appch was in a good mood, and I just spent the flight screwing around and flying for the fun of it. It was great... I climbed a bit and cooled off, checked out the beach, flew over the intracoastal for awhile, and just had an awesome time. One of the best flights I've had, and it was a great reminder why I love flying so much and why I want to get into this crazy business. Today was a great day to fly.
 
Flew the B-17 today into YIP, such a nice day I went out flew the C-172 around for awhile.
 
Wish I had... especially if I was "senior" and had the day off. Instead, I layed tile and mowed. Not tomorrow either. However, on Tuesday, I will burn up some dead dinosaurs inside a turbine engine, and I will feel like a million bucks again!
 
Sat reserve in the crashpad. Watched Casino. Commute home tomorrow 7/4 for 3 days off. Waiting for the furlough notice. Does anyone know to go about preparing to collect unemployment? I've flown a whole 125 hours so far this year.

I'm supposed to be flying now, but my instructor called in "sick" today. Amazing how that happens on a holiday!

It was supposed to be my first flight since leaving the airlines a month ago and I was going for a rental check out. I want to get back in to GA flying and enjoy it again. Oh well, I'll wait for another day, and a different instructor. In the meantime, I'll be sunning myself by my pool in Florida and at 12:00:01 I'll enjoy my first cocktail of the day! (Never before noon - 1 hour 21 minutes to go, but who's counting?)

One of the perks of flight instructing in an academic setting: Holidays off. (Although it really wouldn't have bothered me to fly on the 4th.) So, I will not be flying, but I will be attendance at a bbq. I'll fly tomorrow though. (7/5)

It's not so bad he took the 4th of July off as the way he did it by calling in sick. So he basically left you hanging, then said, "screw you I'm BSing today and calling in sick, even though I'm really not, and it is totally obvious. I won't be honest, and ask you to reschedule, I'll just lie about it. I really don't care what you, or my boss thinks. I'm going to be flying a Canadian school bus with wings soon, and making $20,000 a year!!! You're just coming in for a checkout, no big deal if I blow you off right?"

So now when you get screwed for a 5 hour checkout (including a short cross country where they look over your shoulders after demanding you plan the fligh, even though you were an airline pilot,) because this tool wants to take all your money, you know why.

My thoughts exactly! I never called in sick on a holiday whether I was a Flight Instructor, Charter Pilot or Airline Pilot so this crap doesn't sit well with me. The pisser about it is that the FBO didn't call me - they waited for me to show up to give me the great news. He had someone on the schedule before me so it wasn't like he just called in sick right before I got there - they knew for a couple of hours. There's more than 1 FBO on the field here, I think I'll go shopping - tomorrow!

If you are furloughed the first stop needs to be at the unemployment office. It will take about 11 days for them to process you and get your first check. You can't be proud it is going to take you a lot longer than that to get another job. Usually the check will be between 800.00 and 1000.00. You will need to log all your contacts and log on the website of the unemployment office. It is a bummer but usually you end up in a better position than you were in anyway.

You betcha. I operated for 6.5 hours and then commercial deadhead for another 1.5.

Tomorrow will be a 10 hour day.

If you were refering to me, I appreciate your concern but fortunately I left the airlines by choice - I wasn't furloughed. I had just about all I could take of the airline lifestyle and the associated BS so I got out. I'm gainfully employed in a completely different field now and I couldn't be happier (my quality of life is better and the paycheck is bigger). My goal is to keep flying as a hobby and maybe do some part-time 135 or instruction.

I'd love to chat more, but my the ice in my drink is melting by the pool!

I dreamed about flying, while I was in the middle of a sandstorm in the sandbox. Only a couple months left.
 
Sat Reserve...and they didn't call. The first 4th of July I've had off in a few years.

Watched the parade. Grilled steaks. In 55-minutes I'll be outside my first Moosehead of the evening.

I love my job!
 
Wasn't at the controls, but rode along in a B-25 buzzing the local 4th parades. Fun!

Sounds like a plan to me. That was very unprofessional on both the part of the instructor and the FBO. I'd figure out some other options. There's nothing worse than a lazy instructor, except maybe a flaky FBO.
