We stay at the hampton, it is nice enough, and a short cab ride away from campus.

The Atherton Hotel. It's right on campus, nice rooms...2 right turns out of the hotel lobby and there's a long long street with several bars to choose from

Back when we overnighted there (about 6 years ago), CommutAir put us up in the Toftrees. We didn't have a lot of time there, but I thought the accomodations were fantastic. There's even an Outback knockoff as one of the in-hotel restaurants. Good stuff!

Toftrees is good. Outback knockoff is good, very comfortable but you will need a cab or a D.D. to go downtown plus college is starting have fun..

Atherton is expensive as all get out. Good nightly specials in the bar though. Cheeseburger night is the bomb!

Every response so far have been expensive hotels. What pilot wants an expensive hotel?

What are you looking for in your hotel there, cheap, close to downtown, close to airport? Are you going to have a car there or need van service? Can I assume you're going to be based there with the only airline that has a base there (now)? There are plenty of options, but you need to define what you're after.

Days Inn down town. With PSU College football starting, everything will be expensive. Days Inn will have the best bang for your buck, including systematic van service to UNV.

Hampton is good, but during football, $135 per night. Call your UNV ops and ask them. They usually have a list of hotels.

Go Lions!

I think Asserton isn't all that great. Rooms are damp, the elevator takes forever and wireless only works in the lobby.
It is next door to a chinese place and a Taco Bell, so that's a positive. Lots of bars within short walking distance.
There's a motel accross the street from it, though. Looks like it could be less expensive. I don't think Asserton is cheap. Nieither is Toftrees.

The Atherton is expensive, you'd faint if you heard what PDT was wasting on rooms there every night. Like I said, he needs to define what he's looking for in a hotel. Downtown hotels would not be any good for a commuter based in SCE, it's a hike to the airport. I certainly wouldn't recommend where we stay if he's paying on his own.

If you're looking for a place to stay for work, I'd try the Stevens Motel on North Atherton, 814-238-2438, it's clean and simple, but no ammentities. Across from it is a Motel 6, 814-234-1600, it looks pretty nice for a Motel 6, it gets a little pricier during the home games and special events at PSU. It comes back to if you have a car or not, too. If you need a van to run you around, you won't find a cheap motel with one.
