Hey everyone,
Going to be laid off soon, just curious what my chances of getting based in DEN are as a new hire for Horizon. Dont want to commute and wouldnt mind living there. Do they give you somewhat of a choice on airplane and base? An airplane is and airplane - with it worded correctly in an interview would they possibly let you pick a base?

How is the QOL and the trips on the CRJ there?

I know upgrade times are at 5-6 yrs now, With the scheduled arrival of airplanes this year and next, what does the upgrade look like? What is the jr base as a captain?

Just trying to figure out where to go from here.

Thanks for any help in advance!!

Is horizon still giving XJ preferential hiring?

Sorry though I know nothing about the compnay though...I went to AWAC when I got my Christmas card from XJ. Its ok here if you live on the east coast but SLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOW movement now. Hired in Jan still on Reserve in PHL anyhow.

Not really. You may be able to express a strong preference in your interview, but ultimately the company will more or less give you a take-it-or-leave-it offer for aircraft. I wouldn't count on being able to "negotiate" a different a/c then assigned. If you get the CRJ, DEN might be awarded immediately. If not, you should be able to hold it quickly.

See above. Worst case scenario, you would be based in PDX. Very little chance of getting SEA assigned in anything right now (could change).

Seems very good. Trips are 4 on, 3 off. Not too much NASA safety alert kind of schedule crap to deal with.

If all deliveries come as scheduled, much still depends on the fate of the 200's. In any event, once the last new-hire brought on before 9/11 upgrades sometime next year, the upgrade time will drop to around 4 years, maybe less. Attrition is extremely low at the moment at QX.

Just trying to figure out where to go from here.

It ain't for everyone (and we are in Section 6), but you could do worse than QX right now.

Thanks for any help in advance!!

PM me if you have any more questions.

Haven't heard anything official, but the recently published new-hire profiles for the 1st quarter classes had 4 XJ alumn. I believe the April and May classes had some more.

I heard with a mesaba in your name you still are all but assured of an interview. However Ive also heard less than half of all interviews result in job offers.

Thanks again guys!!

I'm a Mesaba furloughee that has applied but haven't heard anything. I sent my stuff in about 2 months ago. I never heard about any preferential hiring for us there. Our MEC website just lists preferential hiring at AWAC and ExpressJet. If there is such a thing could someone please PM me about it. Horizon sounds like one of the best places to be right now and I'd love to end up there.

Slow movement? Umm, check out all the people that quit last month. 4-5 months on reserve (figuring you were right out of training in February) is not that long. For a newhire today it might be a little long, but I doubt even hired today someone will spend more then 6 months on reserve here.

To add, I know of 2 guys who were in the late Jan. class and they managed to hold the last 2 hard lines in July in PHL. So, if you were in that same class and didn't get this bid period, I'd say your time is coming in August. As for me, I was in one of the Feb. classes. Hopefully, I won't be on reserve much later than Sept. or Oct. Hiring is still progressing. 1 class in May, 2 in June, and at least one in July. Buddy who was in May class told me that's what JG said.

It wasn't that QX has/had XJ preference. I was told it was because the furloughees met QX's requirements. (They were also attempting to help out the XJ furloughees.)

According to their website, QX is still hiring. Keep in mind that there is a "preference" for four year degrees.

Note: I recently forwarded a resume' of a XJ furloughee to the QX chief pilot. He promptly returned it with a nice note explaining that the applicant didn't have a degree.
