Perhaps, but at some point in your life you have to decide to stop working today for a hamburger two weeks from now. Maybe said Captain doesn't want to work until 65 and looks at 55 like a more sensible retirement age. By that math and at his age it most certainly doesn't make any sense to forego his seniority, current pay (not projected pay coulda shoulda woulda if he moved on) and schedule (QOL) for new-hire pay/schedule anywhere.

Just because you could work until 65 doesn't mean one should want to. Yet people continue to starve just to chase that carrot in this industry....
