I was heading home from another IFR training flight, when I had this thought for a new cheat-proof view limiting device. Just thought I'd throw it out there, maybe it's been done already, and maybe it's against regs; I don't know.

What if all the windows in the plane were coated with a polarized film, and the student wore glasses polarized in the other direction. The result would be completely black windows for the student, and normal view for the CFI. Plus, I also believe that having the polarized windows would cut down on glare as well.

What I don't know is if this film would result in a discoloration on the windows; do the the FARs allow tinted windshields in AC?
Anyway....just thought I'd share my thought, maybe it's already been thought of....or maybe someone out there can make millions on the idea.

Not exactly sure about the FAR's, but I know that if you were to tilt your head slightly to one side you may be able to see past the polarization. In a sense, many airplanes already have a "polarization" to them in the form of windscreen heating elements. Interesting idea though! Maybe you could perfect a way so you couldn't "cheat".
