Finally decided to bite the bullet and get the 73 type. Any thoughts on this is a better program? I realize that both are somewhat affiliated with SWA, but which is better. Thanks for the info.

I got my type at HPA and was thoroughly satisfied. Good training, good environment.

That being said, not sure how you are going to get a comparison, as I can't imagine how one person would have attended both places. (well, I can imagine, if they are rich and really have nothing on their hands but time and money and wanted to do nearly identical courses for the same outcome, 737 type)

So, not sure how you're gonna get a head to head. From the last 20 posts about type ratings, pretty much everyone that has been to HPA says good things and same with K&S. Some of the other type places get more mixed reviews (or are smaller thus have fewer proponents)

I have my doubts that any type school gets you an 'in' at SWA but I'm just a line pilot and don't know all the super secret "Herb only" info. I would pick on where you think you'll get the best training (i.e. best chance of passing a type ride w/o extra sim sessions or , lord forbid, a pink slip and a refly). A few years ago there seemed to be a sim school or two that did have reputations for having a fairly high percentage of their students require 'extra training.' That really cuts into the 'savings' of going with the cheaper sim school.

Good luck either way.

I went to FTI in Denver, cheapest around, $5995 I think. I was in and out in 11 days, great bunch of people, and got the paper. Yes, it's all in the 200, but SWA doesn't care, as long as it's a 737 type. But, no, I haven't gotten the call yet.....maybe this year......

Both training centers offer quality training, can't go wrong with choosing either one of them.....

I went to K&S in Phoenix. Their cost include hotel and transportation to your sim. K&S has a high majority of active pilots out of Luke. My class had 10 guys (1 civ, 1 navy and 8 Luke guys) I have talked with guys who went to Higher power and training seems to be equal however study material and QRH etc.. is a better quality at K&S. Sounds to me that money should be the final decision maker.

other bennies....

HPA has a great snack room with all the coffee, cookies and candy you can fit in you stomach. Pizza on Wed, and a great lunch at Texas Stadium...

K&S ...smallest class sizes, and they'll work with you on the fees. I think HPA doesn't take credit cards.

I am going to HPA on April 4th. I made the decision based on stories from people I know who went there and a phone conversation with a very nice lady named Sandy. I was very impressed with the way she handled the phone call and her attitude in general so I chose to go with HPA. That being said, I have heard wonderful things about K&S as well when looking at both schools. I really don't think you can go wrong if you go to either one.

I have been going over the training materials and they seem to be put together rather well complete with a million questions to quiz yourself with and 3 CDRoms.

As for HPA not taking credit cards, there is a way around that. Open a PayPal account and use your credit card as the primary source of funds....badda bing, paid for with a credit card.

Thanks for all the great opinions. I am leaning towards HPA but recently had a couple of SWA friends tell me to check out K&S. Thanks again.

Also check out Aeroservice in Miami, $500 discount to Air Inc members, good hotel with on demand van to the building, and I was in a class of 2, talk about personalized training, all for about $6200 on the -300

I've had 3 friends go to Aeroservices now, and all three have been very, very disappointed with the service they got. All three said they'd recommend not going there; one is still trying to get his sim scheduled over a month after he finished ground school.

I went with HPA in January and wouldn't trade the experience for anything; they were just terrific. I've also heard excellent things about K&S.

I second the "Avoid AEROSERVICES" in Miami. I worked with that firm when I was in the Military and did a site visit in conjunction with possible 737 training for the USAF. Despite all the advance planning, their POC was at lunch for my arrival. After 1 hour of waiting and an impromptu tour by AEROSERVICES, the POC was still not back -- I left. They lost the opportunity because they didn't keep an appointment for a deal worth approx 75K. Never a follow-up email or phone call from the POC and I guess the company just didn't care. Have a friend who went there and almost busted the check because of the incompetent training/evaluation he received. After waiving a serious BS, they incompleted it (didn't bust him) and he got a different evaluator the second time. Never would I recommend AEROSERVICES. Go to K&S or HP -- it is worth the extra $.

I did mine at HP and was very happy with the training. Don't think just because you go to HP or K&S you will have any more of an "in" with SWA. Both have great reps, but you still have to compete on your own.

Friend of mine went to aeroservices and they actually busted him on his ride. currently have a friend who has been waiting since November to get a confirmed class date. I would avoid Aeroservices like a $1.00 hooker with no condems.

I had a very good experience at Aeroservice. I have no loyalty to them, but I thought the training was great. The FAA examiner said I knew the systems better then he did, I got plenty of sim time, and passed the checkride no problem. They still take me to lunch if i'm in the area. They also helped my sim partner out with a huge paperwork error that on his part that could have been a show stopper.

I have heard good things about HP as well. I guess it would be very hard to compare unless someone got a type from each.

I am thinking of going to HPA on May 30th if I can get the time off work. Anyone else looking round that time?
