Going to HP Jan 23rd to Feb 5th, and need to know a good hotel!

HP rates:

Holiday Inn $36
AmeriSuites $49
Comfort Suites $39

Can anyone tell me how good these hotels are? Likes, dislikes?

Thanks,
Avro

When I went a year ago, pretty much everybody stayed at the AmeriSuites. As a hotel, I wasn't real impressed -- the rooms were quite dark even with all the lights on, the laundry dryer was broken the whole two weeks, and our first room had a bad smell; we switched right away. But the staff was really nice, the location was good, and the van service very reliable for our simulator sessions (that's critical). And the location was walking-distance to HPA, which was very nice. But if I had to do it again, I'd certainly investigate the other options.

Any comments from folks who've stayed at the other places nearby?

What Texas hotel doesn't have that smell? I thought the Amerisuits was pretty good. Free high speed internet plug in each room and that breakfast in the morining was absolutly essential. It's just a place to study and sleep, there's no time to admire it anyway.

Ditto Mr. Hat

Stayed there this past September with my wife. Breakfast was nice. Walking distance was nice, too. Most of the Katrina evacuees should be gone and it should be just fine

I stayed at Amerisuites for 3 days, terrible, the only nice thing about it is it's a quarter mile walk to Higher Power. I got tired of going to a stinky nasty room every night. Stayed at comfort suites for the rest of the 2 weeks, same price, hotels only about 2 years old and didn't stink, extremely nice rooms compared to Amerisuites, free high speed internet, free beer happy hour, and only 1 mile from HPA, they'll shuttle you to HPA.

i stayed at Comfort Suites. Not bad, considering you're going to be at HP most of the time anyway. A few guys in my class wound up sharing rooms and CS had no problem w/ changing their resrvations. Free high speed, continental breakfast, restaurant next door.

I stayed at the Amerisuites, I thought it was not that bad, not the best, but close to HPA. The nice thing was that most of the guys stayed there, and if you do not have a partner, and you find someone, they will most likely be at Amerisuites.

My room was clean, and no smells. As mentioned the lighting was not the best. The airconditioning unit was loud, and it really did not bother me, but it may bother some.

All in all, I was busy enough that it was a non issue. I drove to Dallas, so I had my truck, and others did as well. If you and your partner do not have a car, I would consider renting one for sim time.

HP is now a major......put it in the right forum.

Not the advice I was looking for, but thanks!

Thanks for all the info! Keep it coming!

If you have wheels and don't mind about a 15 minute drive to HPA, then there's always the option of staying at the Red Roof Inn just north of DFW. Crew rates are $25.99/day. Free local calls & free breakfast and they are completely re-doing their rooms in the next few months. Good option if you're trying to save cash to pay off that $7380! Number is (972) 929-0020.

Most folks in my HPA class stayed at Amerisuites for around $40 a night and seemed to like it. Definitely more convenient! Hope this helps and good luck to all you guys!
