Hey Russian:

Was that a Gulfsteam 1900 that lost a nose wheel in Key West? First, you had a problem going into FLL with the Embraier, now a Beech looses a nose wheel? What's going on with maintenance??
In fairness in reporting, they just gave the tail number of the plane. Might not be a Gulfstream A/C, but it did leave FLL., so I'm curious.

So what? NWA lost a nosewheel in a DC-9 in MDW a few years back. Does that mean they're a crappy operation? Cheap shot at gulfstream. Get over it.

Come on, JP:

There is still a much ballyhoo'd thread about The Russian having a nose gear problem last week.
I was just asking a question about IF it was Gulfstream. And, I ask because on the FAA website, it does not mention the name of the carrier, which is highly unusual. It just gives a tail number, and that is registered to Raytheon Leasing.
So, it looks like a bit of a hush-hush job, maybe it is, maybe it isn't.
And, like I said, I don't even know if it is Gulfstream.

Maybe it isn't and someone over there would like to clear it up.

Oops, musta missed that one. Sorry.

I never heard about anything. We are getting so big, that I miss stuff sometimes. Our gowth is also affecting our ability to maintain the fleet. With Bombardier across the field, we cannot keep people. The pay is much better elsewhere. It is too bad really. Got a bigger hanger that we can lease?

I would be scared too at 250 hours...

Big difference between NW losing a DC-9 nosewheel (100 or so in the fleet) and Gulfstream losing one (20 or so flown).

Where? I don't see anyone on the tail.

I didn't start this to dump on Gulfstream, I was just miffed that the local Federali's "seem" to be doing a friendly cover job. THAT is not a business flight, that is an Air Carrier operation.
And, that nose wheel that didn't lock for The Russian should have been reported also. Don't seem to be able to find it.
I don't blame Gulfstream, hell, I wouldn't want to brag my mistakes or misfortunes. But, another exmple of the Fed's playing in somebodies pocket.
Some poor shmuck who makes a honest mistake might get hammered, but a player with some influence gets a pass (or two or three).
Not right in my opinion.

Woundn't be the first time. The feds in the ATL CMO (ASA and Delta) are totally in managements back pocket. They teamed up over ASAP and never got back out of bed. Now, some mtc issue happens and the pilots get thrown under the bus for taking it, not the company.

And, that nose wheel that didn't lock for The Russian should have been reported also. Don't seem to be able to find it.

It was on the news all day that day and the day after. It was reported to the Feds.

I got the scoop on the nosewheel incident today. Apparently the nosewheel bearing seized and melted into two pieces. This allowed the nosewheel to come clean off the strut and hit the prop. The prop didn't like that, so it bent. Not a good day for that crew.

Maybe I was not clear on my point.
I'm sure it was reported by Gulfstream, just seems the local Fed group might not be reporting it higher up the food chain. Fewer reported problems, fewer inspectors from Okie City.
And, I have to wonder about the nose wheel. Sure, sometimes bearings shatter from sudden overload, but a wheel bearing that is properly inspected and lubricated should never sieze and fall off the axle.
Normally, that is just bad maintenance, pure and simple.

In no way am I blaming the crew, I doubt the best prefight in the world would have caught it. Same with the issue you had last week. Kudo's to you for working it out. But, how long before the tail gets rigged wrong, or the spar crack (ala Chalks) just gets overlooked??

Yeah, I see your point. As a representitive of my company, all I can say is that I hope we take the right direction towards proper maintenence of our fleet. And, that our technicians remain vigilant to solving mechanical problems.
