Happy Tax Day!

Here is the link to the full article, but allow me to summarize.

http://www.Heritage.org/Press/Commentary/ed041406d.cfm

The federal government will spend $23,760 per household. They only collect $20,044 per household in taxes. This represents a deficit of $3,716.

Of the $20,044, :

$7,875 goes to social security and medicare

$4,701 goes to defense

$3,579 goes to programs for the poor

$1,930 goes to pay interest on the federal debt

$870 for federal employee retirement benefits

$732 for education (most education funding comes from state property taxes)

$671 for health research and regulation

$618 for veteran's benefits

$456 for community and regional development (including Katrina aid)

$402 for highways and mass transit

$363 for justice administration

$338 for unemployment benefits

$305 for international affairs (not Bill Clinton's kind of affairs! foreign aid!)

$287 for natural resources and the environment

$235 for agriculture

$398 for all other federal programs including social services, space exploration, energy, and air transportation

I think it's a travesty that only 11 cents goes to the restoration of Thomas Jefferson's nose on Mt. Rushmore.
