350DRIVER

I would like some opinions from the pilots on this board that presently own motorcycles or have in the past. I have narrowed my choice down to either a Honda CBR600 or Suzuki GSX600. I have priced both new ones and used but unsure what is best to purchase. Seems that in a few years that I will loose alot of money in depreciation if I choose a new bike...? I looked at a brand new 2003 GSX600 40th anniversary bike tonight but when all was said and done with taxes, etc, etc, it came to almost $8100 out the door...(ouch) this was also after bickering with them about the "sale" price and they would not go a penny cheaper. Seems like a "used" one may be smarter BUT how can one make sure that is has not been laid over or wrecked other than the obvious physical damage.?

Any insight, advice, wisdom, experience about buying "new" or "used" crotch rocket sport bikes.??:D :D

thx to all,

sorry about this not pertaining to aviation.:p

one of our pilots bought a new CBR 600 even though he had just bought a new Buell a few years ago...he kept both bikes by the way and is on a family man's budget, so he must have got a good deal on it.

My brother has a CBR 900 and it is first class all the way. Maybe you should look into what sales incentives are being offered on Honda bikes right now. The season is coming to and end and inventory must go!

As far as used? if you do the ebay thing, take the bike to a dealer and have them do a prebuy inspection for you...then you'll have done as best you can on a used bike sale.

A good way to get some great info is from the sport bike magazines. They all seem to put great time and detail into the 600cc Shootout. This year the CBR600RR is making waves, and looks to be a sweet bike. But Yamaha's R6 is rated the best overall. They say Suzuki hasn't had any major makeover's in a couple years, and that's not enough when everyone else is dramatically improving.

I own a 2000 CBR600F4 and couldn't be happier. I bought my bike used, and it already had all the aftermarket goodies. I didn't have to spend all the extra dough on the things that make it even more fun to ride. A good inspection can tell you the history of the bike. It's fairly obvious when it's been babied or abused. If I were looking now, I'd have the same dilemma, but between the new CBR600RR and the R6.
