What can I do to improve my chances of getting an interview with JETBLUE?

Been updating my application since 11-28-04
No internal recomendations
5,500 TT
ATP MEL
CIV
Md-11, Be-1900 types
International experience, EFIS/FMS experience

I would say to be patient.

I first filled out the online app back in early 2003. Updated regularly, once or twice per month. No internal recs. It took them about two years (and two Air Inc job fairs) to call me for an interview (they called in Sep or Oct of '05).

Again, keep updating the app, be patient, and hope.

edit:
my times when they called for an interview:
PIC jet 640
PIC turbo-prop 1300
SIC Jet 1000
SIC Turbo-Prop 1100

I was a 747 cargo guy and it took 1 year and no AIR inc conferences. As long as you have greater than 1000 pic jet I'd say sooner than later.

Applied via faxed resume the very first month they started operations and advertised on climbto350.com for pilots. 3,000 Total Time, 1,500 PIC Jet at the time.

Applied via online application when it came online in 2003. Again with the new one in 2004. Updated every 30-60 days for the last two years.

Now at a little over 7,000 hours total time, typed in 4 jet aircraft, over 4,000 hours PIC Part 121 jet, about 10 internal recommendations, attended 1-2 AIR, Inc job fairs a year for the last 7 years.

No phone call yet.

I think I hold the record for longest time of application in with no interview call. Maybe I should play the lottery. ;)

Lear70, with all that time hasn't FedEx, UPS, or CAL called you for an interview?? I think you are above JetWho.

From talking with folks who know folks:

Network . . . is there anybody you know at JetBlue? Get online recs.

Go to an AIR INC or WIA or whatever convention and make a good impression.

Keep updating online.

Can you add something to make yourself stand out? ALPA committee work, or mentoring, or the masters degree your working on, or charity work, or teaching judo, or check airman, or that flight department special project, or getting the scout troop their aviation badge. Something.

No promises, but these should improve your chances.

Happy hunting . . .

Oh -- and don't put "Jet Blue Airlines" on your resume. Don't look good to not know the name of the company you say is your dream soul mate for life. It's "JetBlue Airways."

Not yet... I've been applying since 1999 at both FedEx and UPS but I don't have an internal rec at UPS (I don't know anyone who's even gone over there) and I only have 2 of the 3 I need for FedEx. Still working on a CAL internal rec, one or two buddies from sitting reserve here at PCL went to ATA then to CAL so I'm hoping to hear back from one of them shortly.

A LOT of my friends here at PCL have gone to jetBlue, not many to other places. Still working on it and like Mark said, something will give EVENTUALLY somewhere. :)

You mean you actually have to know someone at JB? How fair is that? Where is the equal opportunity? Blah blah blah... I thought I would add that since that is usually a staple in FDX hiring threads. Socal if you have MD11 time you should be a shoe in with us if we are hiring into the right seat directly.

Tell them you used to be in prison, and every one in a while they would let you out to pick up trash along the highways. They like guys with experience picking up trash. That saves on training cost.

Hi, it's Dave. Hi Frank. Don't we need to hurry if we need to make that tee time? Don't forget to tell these pilots that if they're good caddies, at least they'll have a skill to fall back on.

With all those redeyes, they could do both at the same time.

Hi Dave.

Yeah I'll be there for that tee time. I have a JBLU pilot lined up as a ball washer. I also have one lined up to wash the golf balls too.

And about those red eyes. Which flights are you referring to? They all run so damn late, I think they all turn into red eyes.

Locked any labor groups out of the property lately? Damn I miss the good old days.

Well, we'll reminisce out on the links.

Cya.

Even without a sponsor? Some of us can get an LOR or two, but no sponsor.

10,500 TT, 7,000 TJ PIC and no call from JetBlue either........... Oh wait, I haven't applied there. Guess that's the reason!

$10,000 for a recommendation, $20,000 to say that I actually know you! Cash only.

You are either

1) a troll who wants to pretend that you work at UPS. (The smart money goes here)

or

2) an idiot who works at UPS and wants to chest beat on the forum about it.

Either way, you're on the ignore list.

Not sensitive, just tired of the crap.

This used to be a good forum a couple of years ago. Now it's filled with children and adults acting like children.

If you have to go on an internet forum and pretend to be something that you are not - or attack people that you don't know, then your life is pathetically empty and devoid of accomplishment.

To be clear: I don't mean that. Having an online recommendation may improve you chances, but it is in no way a requirement. From the little I've seen, I'd say JetBlue goes out of its way for equal opportunity hiring. No one small group is favored or shut out.

We have a winner!!

Very well put, Skygod. Especially the part about making a good impression.
It all comes down to that in the end. Some folks can, and some folks can't.

I have to say, jetBlue does hire the biggest cross-section of aviators I've ever seen. Every friend I've had whose interviewed there always says there are equal numbers charter, corporate, military, and 121 furloughed and 121 regional peeps at the interview.

Just wish they'd put some weight in the "length of time application has been on file" part of the process too... but I guess I'm just being selfish. ;)

Tell you what, how about I put it in escrow, and if I get the interview AND get the job, you get the $$$.

Sound fair? :P LOL ;)

I wish I had the correct answer, but keep trying and dont give up. Recommendations are good after the interview (supposedly). I interviewed 2x before I got hired and I just kept updating every month. 3BCAT was right on the money with his advice. Good luck.

Wow, you take the cake Lear70. I had my stuff in initially just like you before JB even started flying (5500TT+, 1000+PIC Jet, 2000+PICturboprop at the time) I finally got called summer of 04 and was fortunate enough to be hired with 8500+TT,3500+PIC Jet) Good luck man!
