I need to go get the FE Written done and I was wondering if going to All ATPS cold-turkey was doable. Anyone done it? I've kinda been given a short timeline, so minimal studying is possible.

Thanks!

Yeah...it's do-able...with a catch. Learn your basic formulas berfore going, make sure your basic calculator has fresh batteries and be prepared to go through the computer based question bank as many times as possible in the hours before the test. It focuses on the main sections of the Q&A portions of the FE test, but you kinda need to know your formulas for the weight and balance stuff. You can configure the study portion of the question bank a variety of ways: showing only the right answer, then show all the answers and you choose the right answer before seeing the right answer, etc. You repeat it enought times and you've got a pretty good grasp on the questions by test time. Good luck...

ps> where you trying to go to with the FE ?

IMHO, I wouldn't even prep before I got there. I went to the one in ATL and they give you plenty of good gouges.

Walked in at 8:00 am with no FE knowledge at all. Walked out late that afternoon with a score of 99. It's a piece of cake.

Thats what I want to hear! ;)

I got the study guide from http://www.sheppardair.com/and looked at it for a total of 5 or 6 hours then went to an FAA approved test site and took the test in 20 minutes and got a 100. When I walked out the test monitor said "thank goodness for sheppard air" She said she could tell because they consistently get done fast and get 100's. It is about 75 bucks, you download it to your home computer.

Or you can just use the time before the test that All ATPs gives you to memorize the answers. That is pretty much what their test prep is good for, memorization. Good luck.

I got my ATP Written + Flying part at Sheppard Air. Good deal :)

I gotta vouch for SheppardAir. Their prep is quick and reliable. I got a 100% after just a few hrs of looking over their gouge. You can go to their website and download the program right now and start studying it in about 10 min.

They have a good gouge, ya just sit there run through the questions a million times, when you feel ready you take the test, usually the same questions you have been looking at, if you do not know the answer guess B..... they really do a good job there for the bucks.

All ATP's is about short term memory. All questions come from their data base. Just show up with a re-formatted brain. Did mine at Pensacola in 1999. FE written, ATP written, ATP practical all in 5 days.

About that time for me also...

I need to take my ATP written and until T-Gates posting yesterday, I only knew of all ATP's cram session and the traditional sit down with Gleim and read over and over. So i'll look into this Sheppard Air deal, because it really does look better. If I did the ATP way, i'd have to fly to Chicago and get a hotel and all, just to take the written the next day. So this will save a little money. One more question;
If you take the ATP written, is it the same test for the FE written, or should I get the ATP one first, get that taken care of, then download the FE and take that at a later date?
Thanks

Just get the Gleim book and sit your butt down and memorize the answers. No need to do any calculations at all.

I did mine in July of 2000. I started at 10am and did a half hour on half hour off until dinner. Took a 2 hour brake then same thing until 11pm.

Woke up at 8 the next day hit the book from 9 to 2:45 then drove to the test site took the test and was done at 3:50pm with a 98. Never touched the calculator or scratch paper.

$30 for the book and $60 for the test.

Then I drove home and spent $50 to apply to FDX. 4 years plus of updating every month and counting.

Good Luck

Time to update!

LearLove: If you took your FE written 4 years ago and are updating at FedEx I would offer this advice if you ever want to get called:

Your FE written is expired and it needs to be updated. I would go take the test again and then update my online profile. FedEx wants to see that you are current in all of their requirements before they call you in for an interview. They also like to see continual updating of your profile to document interest in the company. But if you keep updating without the minimum requirements (one of which is a current (by FedEx's standards, not the FAA's) FE written), you may likely wait another 4 years and still not get a call for an interview.

As I have mentioned several times on this board, FedEx DOES NOT recognize the FAA extension on the FE written for those who are continuously employed by a 121 carrier. I don't know why they don't, and frankly it doesn't matter, but if you want a chance to interview you should maintain a current class I medical and a current FE written, two things a lot of folks let slide while they are in the waiting process. These should be current and your file updated every month or so (which it sounds like you have been doing) to document your continuing interest in the job.

Of course, the most important thing in terms of getting a call is probably a sponsor who is willing to go to the chief pilot on your behalf, but even a sponsor won't help if you don't meet the mins.

This might be worth what you paid for it but I am convinced that a current FE written will help your cause.

Best of luck.

Yes I know that but the bigger fish is that I do not have the 1000 pic turb as I got downgraded with only 5-6 months as a 121 capt. I keep updating to keep my stuff current. I'll retake the FEX when I reupgrade if that ever happens.

Using sheppard air gives you 295 questions to study from, how many more would the gleim book have?
