Jim said:HAL is definitely furloughing. There are 29 of us furloughed as 1/16/2003 with 5 more out 2/1/2003. Whether this is all that will be furloughed or if there will be more is the big question. The union and management are meeting latter this month to discuss the future. The results of this meeting (there are no pay concessions on the table) will determine if the furlough is small and short term, or cuts deep and last a long time.
It couldn't hurt to see Mike if you're here, but I don't think we'll be hiring for a while.

Most company's won't even talk to a furloughee.
I know, from experience. :-(
Jim said:I think most furloughed HAL pilots are going to sit tight for a couple of months and see how things shake out. There is going to be a big union-management pow wow on 1/15 and there are rumors of 4 aircraft heading to Europe and the Middle East for military charters (which would entail keeping some of the DC-10s flying).
I haven't applied to Aloha and haven't heard about any furloughed HAL pilots that have. I'm not sure how we'd do there as there is historically bad blood between the pilot groups/companies - just look at the $hit that flew around during the failed merger. I don't think this is directed at individual pilots, but more of a corporate culture and competative market thing. Our pilot groups also have opposite opinions on many issues such as how we conduct training, etc. Further, I'd probably go back to HAL when recalled so that wouldn't be fair to Aloha (I like HALs aircraft mix and routes and potential routes better).
I personally think that there will be new routes and 757s on property soon. I might be looking through rose colored glasses, but I think the furlough will be relatively short.
