Saw this on another site, just thought everybody should understand why Southwest airlines always lands hard. WHAT BS!!

Nice report...One of the reasons why Southwest's landings are hard is because (my brother, a pilot for UA told me) WN has a policy to stay high on the glideslope on approach then idle the engines and sorta "glide" towards touchdown in order to save fuel...and so I guess that's why most WN landings are hard. My first and only Southwest flight also had a very hard landing in PHX.

What a tool...

I remember hearing about garbage like this when I was growing up. "Oh, Eastern always has bad weather..."

Where'd ya find this, NPT? Airliners.net?

Yup, good old airliners.net. Always love looking at the photos, I just need to stay away from that crappy trip report site

The airliners.net forums are amazing sometimes. The level of dorkiness is beyond belief. Sometimes there are guys that actually do post some good info. There are some foreign airline pilots and some operations/mx guys that frequent the board, but it's the 'airliner enthusiasts' that are the weirdest. And when one dumb enthusiast asks a question, another equally clueless one will try to answer the question. The quote above is a perfect example. They think they know what they're talking about, but they really have no idea.

The trip reports are an outright waste of time, and I'm embarrassed to say that I've read a couple of them. Some of these dorks make a note of EVERYTHING, including when they got to the airport, how they cleared security, what they had for a snack/drink while waiting for the flight, registration #s of EVERY plane parked at nearby gates and every plane taxiing by...and of course they whine and complain if every little detail of the trip isn't to their liking. Most think they know the best way to run an airline. I think some of these guys need to get laid more often and quit worrying about the little things.

Speaking of hard landings... I was on the JS today and they did a cat III into CLT. I always thought autolands were real hard. This one was real smooth..

I was in the cabin once on a Cat III into ATL on DL ... I had heard the same thing, that autolands were fairly firm. This landing was no firmer than any other I've made or witnessed. Must be one of those urban legends ... possibly perpetuated by pilots who don't want anybody to think the plane can make a better landing than they can!
