I do rate Tommy's Chilli Dog and Chilli fries in Burbank and Hollywood high, but still would rather go to In-n-Out.

If you're going to Tommy's, you need to visit the original. It's at Beverly and Rampart in the Westlake part of LA (just due west of Downtown). Just make sure you go in a group if it's at night. The neighborhood isn't the best.

As for In-n-Out, it used to be the restaurants were few and far between. Now, there all over the place so finding one isn't hard. They are ALWAYS busy too. The double-doubles are the best! Several years ago, I took my ex-girlfriend to In-n-Out while we were in town for Thanksgiving (she's from MKE). After we ate, she was like, "yea, so? It's a burger!" Wow...them's fightin' words to a native SoCal'er!!! :D

Peace

SF

I lived in SoCal for three years and miss In-n-Out. I've often thought about a day trip to AZ, NV or CA just to eat there and come back home.

There is one place around where I live that has a pretty good burger:

Phillip's Grocery - Holly Springs, MS
(541 East Van Dorn Avenue, 38635 - 662 252-4671) Opened in 1948, Phillip's Grocery received national acclaim in 1989 when USA TODAY named their burger in the Top 3 nationwide; this classic two-story building just off the railroad tracks was built in 1882; over the years it has operated as a prohibition saloon and a brothel; it has decidedly more family feel nowadays; closed Sunday; open Monday 9 am - 3pm; Tuesday - Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm; try the fried apple or peach pie for dessert; highly recommended; check out the old railroad depot across the street. Phillip's Grocery has another location in Oxford at 2406 South Lamar Boulevard (662 236-5951).

In'n'Out is awesome.....so is Tommy's. It's a toss up for me. A double double or a chili cheese burger....tough choice. Tommys fries win hands down for me.

BTW, the Westwind was not owned by In'n'Out, it was a charter. They had a policy that certain people were not allowed to be on the same flight, but that day it happened for some unknown reason. Because of that, they lost their top 2 guys in one crash....which, according to their company policy, never should have been possible.

As I recall, the others were not in all that great a neighborhood either. Though the one in Burbank was well lighted.

For Sure, For Sure (a valley girl's answer to why she takes two birth contol pills. Just don't make the mistake of thinkin' I'm a girl. Them's fightin' words )

I didn't know it was a charter. I know the son of the founder died in the crash. His father had already passed away. They use to have an MU-2 they operated from Fullerton and I had only assumed they traded up to the Westwind. Interesting.

In-N-Out

M...,

You and B... have got to stop eating burgers on the road, man. Can't that snazzy employer of yours do better than that! How are the two of you going to fit into the 35 if you keep that up? Is that why you guys are looking for a bigger ride?

I'm here in G-IV initial in DFW and last night I saw an In-N-Out commercial on T.V. I thought GREAT, then figured out it was a rebroadcast of an Angels game originating in Anaheim. Oh well, no In-N-Out burgers for me. But that's probably a good thing. I've gained a good 10 pounds sittin on my tail in this three week course.

Take care,

TransMach
