I'm a corporate SIC pilot. I'm very fortunate to be flying with a captain that allows me to fly PIC half the time. My question is, would it be better for me to stay at this job, slowly building jet time w/ half PIC time or return to my previous line of work as freight dawg getting PIC turbine? Ultimate, with my love for freight, I would like to get on with FedEx.

Thanks!

Speaking as a SWA guy, you ain't logging any PIC if you are flying with a Captain no matter what you think. He/She signs for the jet, you are there to share the flying but really because the FARs require two crewmembers. When do you think you will upgrade to Captain? If it will be a long while, I would go back to flying PIC turbine for the experience, both personal, as well as for the resume. I'm an ex-military guy, so my spin might be different than the civilians. But as far as SWA is concerned, and yes I know you like FedEx, you are logging zero PIC currently. Good luck regardless.

The answer is . . . .. . it depends.

Are you typed in the airplane? Is it strictly part 91? Are you on the insurance as a SIC or PIC? Do you file your own flight plans?

In other words, if you are typed, current. ready, willing and ABLE, then you are the PIC. If not, fuggedaboutit.

I am not aware of any airlines that consider this real "PIC" time. Most applications I've seen specify that PIC is time where you were ultimately responsible for the aircraft...ie. Capt, Acft Cmdr.

I think SWA's app. states they will except PIC time if you are type current and in the left seat of the airplane. I don't think they like that kinda PIC time vs. the PIC time where one is signing for the airplane and has the ultimate authority on how the flight is to be conducted.
