To be eligible to volunteer for and participate in the program you must:
- Have a current FAA Airman's certificate.
- Have a current Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be an eligible flightcrew member flying for an eligible passenger or cargo air carrier:
-For passenger flightcrew members, you must currently be employed by a passenger air carrier or private charter company operated under 49 CFR part 1544 (i.e. passengers are screened by TSA).
-For cargo flightcrew members, you must currently be employed by a cargo air carrier operating aircraft with a gross takeoff weight in excess of 100,000 pounds (45,500 kilograms, or 100, 309.8 lbs) and serve as a flightcrew member for aircrafts of that weight.
From the smallest, single-pilot-135 charter companies to the regionals to the majors, thousands upon thousands of pilots are equipped with a new tool: the .40 or 9mm... and not a moment too soon.

I hate to sound ignorant, but there is a threshold where you have to call the TSA and have them screen the passengers. Perhaps it is the Transport category aircraft, or over a certain weight? I don't USUALLY worry about the passengers, although there was record of a news team having a couple of middle-eastern men chartering a helocopter in St. Louis with some guns in their carry-ons to "show how easy it was to hijack chartered aircraft". They showed up and the FBI and local 5-0's decended on the place.avbug said:Do a lot of single pilot 135 companies require passenger screening by TSA?

He misspoke. They're definately not on any federal payroll.Cardinal said:You said payroll. Is there any compensation? I thought it was all volunteer...

cforst513 said:Haven't heard much on this lately. What's the deal? Are pilots allowed to pack heat? Which airlines allow this, if any at all? I feel like this topic is dead for some reason that I missed out on. Help me out here, y'all.![]()
As soon as they get the harmonics problem worked out, this is what us Van Drivers will have to carry...FracCapt said:We're all packing. Every one of us. Airlines, charter, corporate, and fractionals. Don't ask us directly, or we'll be forced to place you on "the list". Ask again, and we'll be forced to shoot you. It's the law.
