I'm curious what kind of commission (percentage wise) these Sales Reps make on each sale of a new Gulfstream?

That kind of information is classified, but I can tell you this - the commision is progressive. If for instance, let's say a sales exec earns $150,000 on the first Gulfstream he sells in a year, he might then make $225,000 on his fourth sale and $250,000 on his fifth sale of the year. Keep in mind that it takes a special kind of guy to be able to sell a $47,000,000.00 product and it's a tough job. These guys are rank ordered every week (you don't want to be in last place) and they get spanked if somebody else sells a competing airplane in their territory.

Hmmmm. Someone got very rich when a certain un-named company purchased 4 (with an opition) several years ago, didn't he?

Our sales rep is based in NYC. How many G550's has he sold in the past couple of years? I doubt he's near the bottom of the rankings...TC

Is Gulfstream considered the major of business jet sales,or do most people stay with Raytheon or Bombadier?

If SB is considered to be a new account, it would be Christian, otherwise it would be Mo, both are always near the top of the heap. Christian was the Gulfstream Chief Demo Pilot at the tender age of 33 before he became a sales exec.

How many Sales Execs would you say is hired by Gulfstream?

And as a bonus, what is an average time frame that it normally takes a Sales Exec to sale a Gulfstream? From first interest to signing the papers. I would assume months dealing with that kind of money.

I think most aircraft salesmen go where they think they can make the most money. Few sales execs leave the Big G voluntarily, those that do, do well. Peter Edwards left Gulfstream to be VP International Sales for Bombardier and is now President Bombardier Business Aircraft (I know - it's kind of like being Captain of the Titanic, but it's a nice title). Lee Monson left Gulfstream and became President Boeing Business Aircraft.

Christian still looks like he's 18... ;)

I think they started in '96. That was 3 IV's, 2 V's and 2 550's ago. The ashtrays fill up pretty quick around here. :D TC

I happened to run into Christian yesterday at Citigroup's offices in HPN. The comment about looking like he's 18 is certainly accurate. He's certainly a chip off the old block, although Randy is probably looking down on him from upstairs and smiling, never mind the fact that he isn't selling Falcons.

I always wondered how it worked for salespeople at companies like Gulfstream. Do they get paid when they take the order, or when the aircraft is delivered? I know that can be years, in some cases.

I assume that they have some sort of minimum or draw, as well?

Is it unusual for a salesperson to have a bad year and not sell any aircraft?
