bertengineer,

I work for Telesis Transair. We use GTA quite often when we are short handed. The pilots are good guys. I believe they will hire lower time pilots for 135 VFR. I hear that their pay isn't that great. If (when)you have 135 IFR minimums apply at Telesis. The pay is better, shorter contract (6 mos.), and good maintenance.

GTA Air pay is awful. I worked there for 20 somethings days, before leaving. Wasn't even worth the experience. Night flying single engine POS all over TX LA and OK. You will fly at night and sleep all day at this job for atleast 6 months before moving on. And at the same time be stuck away from your home for up to a week, all the while making $800 a month. I have no idea what I was thinking taking this job. I think I just wanted to stay current. It was truly dreadful. Plus the owner and his hag wife are a real shame.

Dude,

Did they hit you with the training contract BS? Just wondering. Were you VFR or IFR for them? I've heard they were allright for a VFR guy trying to build some time, but Telesis was better for IFR 135. A pilot I knew did the Austin run for them a while back. Just wondering.

well gee...thats great to whine about the pay, but if neither of the other two piston operators in DFW are hiring, or he dosent have the twin time required to get on, then its kind of a moot point now...aint it

gta aint bad...yes your start pay is lower, but theres no twin time required either. and by the time youre in the twins (which has been done in as little as a week) pay is dam near the same as the other two, those being Telesis and Texstar.

mind your P's and Q's...dont fly through P49, make your radio calls when you get on the ground and you will be fine. the training contract is all subjective, if they get the feeling you are gonna bail on em as soon as you get into the 400's, then yes, they will probably ask you to sign one.

and...no offense man, but only 20 days flying cargo at night? you didnt get to see any of the fun stuff ;)

I couldn't get anywhere with them...

I applied over a year ago with like 680TT, just trying to fly their single part time or as a fill in, (I don't have a multi.) but I couldn't get anywhere. I'd fly at night for a little while full time, but I couldn't do it for 800 mo. I don't live like a king, but I think Wal-Mart pays their cart boys better than that.

Last time I checked, we're supposed to be skilled people. If we accept nothing less, they have no choice but to up the standard. Too bad there are too many little wh*res who will do it for nothing while sponging off mommy and daddy, trying to beat the system to get into some RJ.

I got more respect for truckers...atleast they acknowledge they're nobodies. We're the only suckers trying to play Mr. Bigshot Professional while getting paid like some stockboys in a grocery store. Then on top of that, let's make excuses and concessions for the company that's giving the shaft, just to be proud to fly some POS in the first place?!?!

I don't speak for anyone else here, but I know I worked hard to get my licenses. Why would I give my skills away for nothing? Even if you didn't go to college for aviation (I didn't.) you still have probably 20k invested. That's more than most people with an associate's degree (with a major other than aviation) from a junior college. They make more than 800 mo. Why shouldn't you?

For those of you telling me if I don't like the pay... You're type of low self-esteem, wh*re mentality, is the reason the pay IS low. Demand to be treated as a professional, and eventually, we will be treated as such, with the pay and benefits to match. Stop being a tool, and act like you have a pair.

If not, I hope you have to sell your PS2 for Ramen.

GTA sucks major you know what. I was there for a year, and somehow managed to walk away alive. I've seen anything any everything you can imagine happen there.

I had a buddy who was fired on the spot for giving a two week notice. He had been there well over a year.

I was preflighting a 402 one afternoon, and while checking the logs, I noticed that one of the engines was a little over an hour past TBO. I made a call to dispatch, and recieved a call from the director of maintenance(Roger....what a stupid ass redneck he is) a couple minutes later. He informed me that they had recieved a fax from the Feds stating we could go over TBO another 200 hrs. Yea right Roger!! He also wanted me to sign his name and A&P certificate number to the log. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Well, if you know Bonnie and Doug, you know how much Hell I caught for that. I could go on and on, but hey, isn't this enough to scare ya away.....lol. Oh yea, Roger has worked for many 135 freight companies and flight schools. Each company he has worked for has had a fatal crash which was maintenance related.
