Sometimes that's because they may not truly understand it themselves and stuff the explanation with a lot of non-essential information to make it more convincing or persuasive. Things can be worded too extensively, with a surplus of words that really end up just confusing the student/listener. I've always found that the simplest explanation is the best. Most complicated things are best presented in their most fundamental terms. From there, one can continue to narrow the understanding of each component to fortify the broader explanation once grasped.
