Anybody know what Grand Aire is paying Falcon SIC's and /or Metro pilots??

I am sure it sucks but curious no less.

You couldn't pay a person enough to work there. They must have set some 135 record last year when they lost two airplane in one day. Not to mention those killed. NOT a safe operation.

I don't have any first hand experience with GA but used to fly with a guy that flew a Hansa for them - the fact that they fly the Hansa should be an indicator as to the quality of the operation - and the stories he told me were unreal!! I have no reason to think that he would lie to me and he flat out said he's lucky to be alive.

Doesn't matter what the pay is - stay far, far away!

Pay is $21,000.00/year +$18.00/hr flight time + per diem

They called me for a class starting on the 24th. How bad can this company be (compared to being a cfi, I mean)? And besides Xjet is taking 60-90 days to call back-what's up with that? Jet time sic @$30,000.00/year is awfully tempting!

At least as a CFI you have a fighting chance of staying alive. I'm so glad you have put a price on your life ($30,000 for jet time).

I don't care how desperate you get, don't sell out safety.

The pilot of the Falcon that crashed last year was famous for saying "We know how to conserve fuel at Grand Aire". He sure did....conserved it all the way to flameout. Do not work there if you value your certificate or your life.

Does anybody know if the "Wacky Paki" is still at the helm at Grand Aire?? I've heard some really great stories about him over the years, but I heard he had sold out and left the freight biz.........

And just for the sake of asking, who would be worse Grand Aire, or Air Tahoma??

I got a call last month from Air Tahoma but turned it down hoping better things on the horizon will pan out.

It depends.... Would you rather die in a old ratty Falcon 20? Or an even older rattier Convair 580/240?

I'd abstain from both....

I was based across the ramp from "Grand Scare" when they were based in Louisville, KY. They have constantly changed FSDO's so that they can stay in business. I had a friend that was FO in a Hansa jet for a while. He said that they would determine their final cruising altitude by climbing to the upper 20's and then descending until they could keep both engines lit. They finally grounded the Hansa's when the FAA discovered during a record's review that 3 of the Hansa's had the same serial number on the landing gear.

My advice would be to run a way as fast as you can. I don't care how many students are trying to kill you. None will do it as fast as a badly maintained jet airplane. Just my 2 cents.

Responsibility

I'm tired of reading everyone cry about how bad Grand Aire is. I believe it's a typical 135 charter operation, I've worked for far worse people than T.C. Granted the Hansa Jet's were not the greatest, but I flew the Falcons for 5 years there, and the aircraft is remarkable and very safe, I also made some good money there, and got some great experience. Everyone always says how bad it is, how about taking some responsibility for yourself, If your the PIC, make the decision, if the the planes broke don't take it. T.C. will scream and bitch all the time, but if you stand up for the regs and what's right, he will respect you ( eventually ).

30K is not good money.

I dont care if this is aviation or not.

Have fun in that Van down by the River.

Hi!

GA lost their insurance after the double Falcon crash. They moved their ops to their other certificate, and are now called "Tri-Coastal".

Grand Aire

All I know is the last year I worked there I grossed 85K. I know about the accidents and certificate, still doesn't change things, you have to be responsible for yourself. Good common sense and skills are what it takes to make it in 135 Cargo. Go fly a Saab for northwest if you want the easy road...

Grand Aire

It's no big secret, we had about 7 days a month off, if we were lucky. I never said I didn't fly my butt off for it, I was just giving some facts.
I wouldn't trade my current schedule and paycheck to go back to it, but it was what it was. Long hours, hard work, middle of the night. But it was good experience.

Good money while building resume

$85K while building TJ PIC sounds like a heck of a deal. You have to pay your dues somewhere. Now he is at Spirit, doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

Well stated. I cannot stand those that b!tch, whine, complain, etc. If you don't want to work there then d o n ' t . Pretty simple and requires very little thought if any. I am sure they will not have a problem filling classes and quite frankly I would suggest the place to those I know who were looking to better themselves, actually I have already done that and will continue to do so... !! !! I am actually putting a friend in contact with someone there right now to explore the possibility of employment.

If you want to be spoon fed and not have to have any responsibility then marry a rich b!tch and get out of this industry and you will have no worries.

This place is no different than most of the 135 operators that I have came across.

I would never steer anyone against any operator based on a person's opinion(s) from this board.

common sense can go a long way in this business...
