Eh I dunno...I've done two rides in FL and used the same examiner, and hes known as an easy one....

I feel I've been lucky with the easyness of the checkrides I've taken. I was always prepared, but I'd still prefer to go with an "easy" examiner if possible.

I think I could have busted my CMEL ride if I had a tough DE who was having a bad day....

I hope your kidding about Pinkston, had him for II and MEI and I thought he was going to fall asleep in the plane.

I would NOT recommend going to American Flyers - you will spend far more than the advertised price and will probably take longer than the advertised 30 days. Although the ground school portion of the program is very good, the flight training was sub-par and I'd spend usually upwards of 40 mins of my "flight time" waiting to take off. American Flyers also charges you for every small thing - from signing your logbook to the training manuals they hand you on the first day that are pointless. I spent over $7000 in costs there and was not happy at all. If you have the money and time and want a top-notch ground program, perhaps you might want to consider them, but if I had to do it all over again I'd do ATP.

Wow, very very different experience than what I had. And very different than what the other people in my academy had as well, remember when you go to one of these fast paced classes, you have to bring a lot with you to the table.
