After much thought and discussion with the wife I have decided to take another step forward in my aviation career. For my own privacy, I will not mention where I will be going but rest assured that I will soon enjoy the protections of a union and a legally enforceable contract. Talking with my fellow pilots the last several months, I DO NOT believe that ALPA will be voted in this time and I DO NOT want to be here to again witness what has occurred after the previous couple of failed drives. Without a legally binding contract, your pay/QOL will continue to slide. SAPA will continue to be a joke and the feel good emails from management will cease along with their willingness to work with the pilots. Now that I have that off my chest, I want to wish each and every one of you the very best (including the ALPA-haters Skynation, JEA, etc.). I will come back to the REGIONALS board to visit now and then but will spend most of my time on the MAJORS board. Later.

Congratulations!

I'm not an ALPA hater, I just don't believe in it as strongly.

you were rather coy about leaving if ALPA isn't voted in. sounds like you had plans to leave all along. that doesn't happen overnite, as we all know. on 10-20-07 you posted:

If this drive doesn't pass then I'm gonna try to get over to a union carrier.

best of luck to you. I have a friend at Delta who thinks I'm crazy not to pursue an interview there. It's a good place, but I'm happy here.

be a sport, tell us where you're going!

best to you

Good luck to you. I would think thought that if you were serious you would have waited three more days to see the results. ALPA or no ALPA SKW wont change that much. They will have the same as they have now, just a contract to be sure that it does not get any worse.

Hey sorry to see you go but congrats on the new job. I know when we talked before you were going to hedge your bets and were preparing to do what was in the best interest for your family and career. Looks like an offer came sooner than expected. I'm right behind you. For the sake of those who choose to stay I sincerely hope ALPA or some form of serious representation is brought in. As for the David Livingstons', Dave Alden's, Jim Black's, Mike Spencer's, etc I hope someone holds them responsible for their mistruths and false promises along with managment this time around if the vote does not pass. There are other people such as Tony Williams who has ignored those who have been around for years and instead chose to defend the status quo (ok so he thinks he is going to do what noone is six years has been able to with sapa, the impotent group controlled by management). Tony is either another management/check airman wanna be or just not too bright. If the vote doesn't pass I want every pilot on this board and every pilot that ever crosses his path to remind him of his words and ignorance thinking he had it all figured out when the track record and trends would seem to indicate otherwise. I doubt he will try to move on anywhere as he is too old but there are some who have strongly opposed each of the various drives that will try to move to an ALPA carrier. I think it would be helpful to get their names out there so everybody understands where they stood on this important issue. A non-union Skywest hurts the entire industry, major and regional alike. Also a non-union Skywest makes those who try to stand up for their rights and raise the bar at Skywest much more susceptible to disclipine and eventual dismissal.

One name off the top of my head to add to the list is Jake Whicker. He is one of hundreds that want their cake and eat it too. He has been very anti-union, feels it ok to undercut the industry (hes making his money as a checkairman) but I'm sure we will see him trying to make his way to an ALPA major sometime in the future....an ALPA carrier that he harmed with his insistance on continuing being a part of the problem and not part of the solution. Once again, no matter how this vote turns out, lets all remember who said what during this drive and hold them accountable for their words and actions. This also includes Skywest managment in the letters from Klen Brooks (ie we have long call reserve in the policy manual), Bill Schlueter suggesting Chip C will do right with the pilot group if we give him a chance, etc. Guys like Skywest pylot who is moving on....get to know your cheif pilot and those in hiring....try to block the S.O.B's who chose not to participate in this industry and who have sold out.

Edit: More to add to the list- Skynation (can anybody help find out who this is?), Soverytired, jea, vtech (this might be Jim Black based upon his writing skills).

You guys are crazy for wanting ALPA!! Vote for the Devil-- he'll do a beter Job!! In house would be the only way !

real classy trying to 'out' people. not only is it against the terms of use of this board, it's a desperate thing to do. since you're in the mood, who are you? you're on the OC, right? how lame.

bear in mind almost no one at any airline reads this crap. it's more entertainment than anything else.

'join us, or else.' classic.

Skynation why do you care where the guy went? You are one weird M0F0!! :smash:

Mgmt.....

This idiot toolbag doesn't care because he is mgmt.! This fool wouldn't go to a major because he is at "good place, and likes it there?"

Absolutely no reason to stay at a regional and forgo something better other than being some silly mgmt. pinhead. Just think of the biggest anti-union idiot in training or mgmt. over there and you have your guy.

Ours is always writing bonehead stuff very similar to Skynation's B.S. Our guy usually writes to Aviation Week or USA Today. Too bad non-airline types read this drivel-some actually buy it!

As stated we tried that. the pilots ran from it like shrieking girls when Mgmt. said they would bankrupt our little endeavor the first time it had to legally defend a pilot.

ALPA is so bad that both Continental and FedEx threw out their independents and voted ALPA on the property.

Also, all the independents now, SWAPA, APA, IPA, NPA, etc purchase ALPA services.

Clearly status quo is not working at Skywest. If it were working, morale would be stronger. Time for change. If not, then stagnation will continue....

WHAT A DORK

WHAT A DORK

Why is he/she a dork? Skywest has already changed work rules unilaterraly that has brought down your QOL. Your wages are also losing its buying power every year with the 1% or 0% pay raise you got.

Reference the "What did SAPA do about this?" thread to see a list of things Skywest has already done to degrade your QOL.

You also. He is a dooork because any self respecting pilot would not come on this board or any other and make a statment like that and think others give a S#it. Just go and get a life.

I DO NOT BELIEVE THE ALPA DRIVE WILL PASS AND DO NOT WANT TO BE AROUND WHEN IT DOESN'T. I've been down this road before and do not want to experience it again. Yes, this decision has been some years/union drives in the making. I am tired of the lies! I am tired of SAPA! I am glad not to have a dog in this fight anymore. Good luck guys!
