Check this out:

I work self-storage by day and I go to class at night to get my Bachelor's and I fly on weekends.

This guy walks in 20 minutes ago to lease a couple of units, one for a very expensive classic car and another for his wife's business.

We get to talking and he says he is retired. I ask what kind of business he was involved in, and he says the shipping business and that he had 20,000 employees. I ask what happened and he said that he got bought out by Airborne Express in 1994.

In the course of the conversaion, I mention that I am on the road to being a professional pilot and that I one day would like to fly for FedEx because of the job security, blah, blah, blah. He says, yes but to work for FedEx you have to know someone on the inside. I told him I know and that was the problem as I don't know anyone there or about to go there.

Here's the kicker: He says, I'll tell you what, you've been treating me great and you look like your head is on straight. Im really good friends with Fred Smith and I will be storing my stuff here indefinatly. When you feel the time is right, give me a call and I will call Fred Smith and see if we can work something out so you can meet him and we will see if he will write a reccomendation for you.

After I re-attached my retinas, I said thanks and he gave me some more advice and left me with a business card.

I'm still trying to get over it!

Good for you. Better make sure to finish that degree though or it will apparently do you no good. God himself could walk your resume in with a pound of some of the finest Columbian blow, three hookers, and a blowtorch, but without the degree, you stand not a chance.

I love to here good news! Keep working on that degree and keep building the time! I just got a job offer from Focus Air Cargo (accepted!) and I'm totally excited!

A similar thing happened to my cousin a few years ago. He even has a copy of the letter Fred sent to HR telling them to give him a call for an interview. He never got a call, flyes for AA. Don't mean to throw cold water on your dreams, just if you do get his rec, follow up.
