At ASA, we're blessed with a firm (but unwritten) "No-fault" go-around policy. To my knowledge, management (chief pilots, etc.) has never come down on someone here for going around for any reason.

I imagine it's not that way in the rest of the industry. Anybody here ever gotten clobbered by their boss for not landing?

Never.

I think that would most definitely send the wrong message. While there are probably companies out there that would send this message, I would like to think they are few and far between.

NTSB tape:

Pilot: Yes sir, I DID see the tractor mowing the lawn and I did think that he was getting a little too close to the runway for comfort. But, you know, we have a no go-around policy at our company, so I landed.

Yep - that'll fly nicely.

What are we talking about here?

You laugh, but I know this guy who used to fly checks. Their chief pilot put a sign over the door going out to the ramp that said "THERE IS NO WEATHER!"

It's rare at large, established Part 121 carriers, but I'll bet there're some freight dogs out there who've gotten chewed out for stuff like this.

Try flying out of STL, you'll get one on a daily basis it seems.
Fly Safe.
