how much does a typical glider lesson go for? Im very interested in getting my glider rating for fun on the side.

Okay, I'm really interested in this soaring thing. I haven't joined the powered club YET, but I will probably in the next month or so. The powered club is $725. I'm turning 16 next week, should I spend my money on my gliders license? And keep saving for my PPL when I get closer to 17? I have about $1000 saved and I'm looking at about $2000 to get my PPL through this club, but through the glider club I could get that for about $500 or so. I just want to fly something without having to go with a CFI every flight and wasting money on useless time waiting to turn 17. I was thinking about working on my PPL and Instrument at the same time. Or could I work on PPL and ME at the same time? The club I was looking at that offers a student membership is a little drive from here. But then again, thats the closest glider port, it's about 35 mins or so.

I've been looking at the clubs, it really pays off to join a club. After that its about $15/hr for a glider and then like $5 for each tow(not aero). So it's not too bad. The instruction is free, I guess thats the perk of being in a club. I'm really stuck on what to do now about Powered and Soaring, hmmm....

yeah i'm going to check out the place locally here in pensacola and see if its a club or not..if its only 15 bucks...hell ill go ahead and get my rating..that is peanuts compared to PPL flying

Since you have your PPL you only need 10 solo flights and 3 flights with a CFIG to get it. Won't cost you much at all. In the FAR it states
If the applicant has logged at least 40 hours of flight in a heavier-than-air aircraft, the applicant must log at least 3 hours of flight time in a glider in the areas operationss listed in blah blah blah....

This falls under the section of private pilots. What if you were a student pilot with 40 hours, would this still apply to you? Or do you have to have your PPL?

hmmm from how you state it, you probably have to have your PPL. Ill look into it but that it how I interpret it right now. Thanks for diggin up the reg!

This is for student pilots. This is one of the ways to get a Private Pilot Certificate. 61.109 (Aeronautical Experience) (f) for a glider rating
That is what you are quoting - one of the possible experience requirements to obtain a private certificate.
