After that I intend to pick up a 1-26 for myself, after of course we close on the house, requisite new furniture, wife's new car ...

Looks like you need to rearrange your priorities ;)

5.2 in a Standard Cirrus in Huntsville, Al. My butt was dragging. Had I started earlier I could have stayed up longer. I almost had to land at the 3.5 hour mark, but got lift back on downwind and stayed up. Great fun when with a group.

4:59 in a 1-26 at Ionia, MI on a local time building flight for the 15 hrs PIC for the CFI-G. I landed because all the other aircraft had been hangared and everyone was waiting for my ship so they could go home.

If I'd stayed up one or two more minutes...

4.6 Hours in a Schweizer 1-26D (417) out of Cal City some years ago...got too sleepy, and had to pee, too...must land.

Got up to above 25000' a couple of times in it in Cal City's wave window, also, back then.

I have 343 glider hours and 986 flights... Lots of short instructional flights and ground launches.

I have to disagree- I'm going on the theory that if we buy the wife's stuff first it will be cheaper and happier in the long run. At least that way I have some veto power otherwise she is off to the furniture store and the sky is the limit!!! Hope it works.

5.0 Hours in a 1-26. Max alt. was 18000. Got cold up there between 15 and 18K.

For all you guys/gals that already had your Commercial before you got your glider rating, how much time did it take you to get it?

Took me 5 days. It cost just over a grand, checkride was free, FAA examiner. If you are close or can get to western NY I suggest Schweizer soaring school, quick, inexpensive and very nice people. Wonder if after the buyout they changed the name to Sikorsky soaring school.
