I am typed and current in the Gulfstream G-IV and the G-V (which includes the 350,450,550). I would like to start doing contract work for operators who supplement their department with fill-in pilots. I am available for up to 7 days at a time.

I would appreciate information from anyone with contacts or leads doing this type of flying as I am new to doing contract work. Also, another question; are we allowed to advertise per say on these forums?

Thank you.

I think you just did.

You could start by switching your username. Every time I hear someone use the term "Grumman" I nearly puke. The department I used to work for had a G-I "Grumman" ...

Sorry, I couldn't resist busting your chops.:D

If you can get on NBAA Air Mail, a lot of contract people advertise there.TC

TC, which list do most operators post open positions on?

General Discussion Lists
Fixed-Wing Aircraft Discussion Lists
Helicopter Discussion Lists
Newsletter and Announcement Lists

Thanks - 750D

Update: Disregard TC. I believe I just found the answer to my question. This should also help Grumanfan.
Looks like the following forum under the General Discussion Lists:

Business Aviation Jobs
[email protected]
The place for posting job opportunities and resumes for NBAA Members. Discussions related to employment or the job market are appropriate for this list.

Ahh...my favorite are all the "grumman" old farts who love to come to recurrent at FSI so they can interrupt class every 10 mins to talk about a "there I was in the grumman" story...

followed by asking others (like myself) if we rememeber someone who has probably been dead since I was 5 yrs old.

God forbid one of the geriatrics finds a fellow "grummaner" in class -- there goes all chances of getting out early to happy hour.

zip it ya old fart.

:D ;)

LOL! Truer words have not been spoken... Even better are the "young" guys who have only flown the "newer Gulfstreams" (G-IV or G-V) and refer to them as "Grummans"...

Puleeeeeezzeee... Get over yourself already!

I thought that the G-V type rating was seperate from the G-550-500-450 and 350. I am confused on Gulfsteam type rating matrix.

The GV type covers the new generation 350/450/550, if you comply with the differences course

We don't need you contract people!

I think if you pay your own training and want to be contract pilot you are no better than those what others call whores!

Contract guys takes in many cases advancement away from other pilots!

I think you should look for full-time work!

Thank You

After reading other posts on this board I knew this was a mistake. For what its worth I’m about to get laid off in 11 months. My private owner in FL has decided to sell his business and retire. We’re selling the plane this summer/fall. I thought doing contract work might give me exposure to other full time jobs. Oh, and I’m 42.

For the 2 of you who sent PM’s, my sincere thanks. For everyone else I hope you never try to figure out how to pay for 2 kids and a wife with no employment, trust me its no fun.

Relax... A bit of "thread drift" is common on these boards... There are people here that can and will help, there will also be extraneous conversations in your thread as topics drift to and fro... No one means any harm... (As for Gulfstream200's comment as well as my own, we weren't referring to you, we were referring to people we have run across at schools and such... Once again, general thread drift, no harm meant...) I'm a few years younger than you, even...

I am very sorry to hear about your situation, I am married with 2 kids of my own and can only imagine the stress and anxiety you must feel...

Get active on the board, there are a lot of good guys here (especially on the Corporate board) that can help or at least get you going in the right direction... With 11 months notice, you have a LOT of lead time... I would imagine you will find something long before the paychecks stop coming...

I'll let you know if I happen to hear of anything...

oops! Take a look at the February edition of the Business & Commercial Aviation Magazine! The article of interest is "The problem with Part-Time Pilots". Best of Luck!

G-Fan, FYI, JM Family Enterprises is advertising for a Lear captain in FLL. They also operate (probably as you already know) a few G's. May give you a leg up.

jeesh man relax. Why was posting here a mistake? better lighten up a bit before job hunting!

You would be surprised how many leads, interviews, and jobs actually get passed along here through PMs....if anything its valuable networking.

Sorry to hear of your upcoming layoff..but with decent experience and ratings you wont be unemployed very long. Qualified people are not having a hard time finding work from what I hear, and you have 11 months.

good luck!

Gruman Fan...as was suggested, get hooked up with Jet Professionals (TEB) and do exactly what you are doing now...networking and communicating with others about your needs.

Contract work and contract workers are a necessary part of corporate flying. That said it can be a challenging way to support a family (insurance, variable income and so on).

Many (if not most) have been unemployed in this industry at some time or another...it is good you have some notice at least to start the search.

Good luck.

Yeah, Falcon Capt and G200 are just young punks looking for a fight. Once they have a couple of years of Grumman G550 flying under their belts like me, their attitude will change... :D :p

Grumman Fan--Please don't let this kind of thing get you down. This is a great site for networking. I ended up with my current job because of a layoff with 15 years seniority. I, too, have two wives and a kid... er, I mean, two kids and a wife. (Sorry, I just came back from SLC...) It's just a kick in the nuts when you first start realizing you need to get a new job.

Stick around and don't get discouraged. TC

The worst part about the job search is the dieting required to get my interview suit not to look like sausage casing
