Seems like Embraer's gonna give all the light jet makers a run for their money!

Embraer Plans for New Bizjets Include a VLJ
More details emerged about new business jets from Embraer at last week’s Latin American Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (LABACE) in Brazil. Embraer president Mauricio Botelho indicated that two models are under consideration–one will likely be in the midsize category and smaller than the company’s Legacy (a business jet version of the ERJ-135) and the other a very light jet. He also did not rule out development of a larger business jet based on the Embraer 170/190 family of jetliners. As for the VLJ, Botelho said it would be one of Embraer’s own designs and not a partnership with an existing company already well into development of a very light jet. Embraer expects VLJs will make up about 71 percent of business aircraft deliveries over the next 10 years, and that the Latin American market is good for about 5 percent of those deliveries. Despite the opinions of some observers that Embraer is arriving late to the party in developing a VLJ, Botelho expressed confidence that the company will be a leader in whatever industry segment it decides to enter. Meanwhile, Embraer said there are currently 49 Embraer Legacys in service worldwide.

Can't wait til Gulfstream buys them out so they can add to their product line of junk (making reference to the buying of Galaxy).

Why get in the VLJ market? It seems a bit saturated, especially with the threat that Honda may try to productionize their prototype. You also have Eclipse (at a lower price point), Cessna with the Citation Mustang, Avocet, and a bunch of small fry that may or may not maintain financial solvency. And the LJ market puts you against Raytheon with the Pemiere and the Hawker 400, a bunch of Cessna models, and the Swearingen. Seems like a pretty relentless market to jump into the middle of.

Of course, if all you do is worry about the competition, you never act entrepeneurially.

VLJ's; okay, a decent idea with decent market prospects.

BUT

Where is the extra airspace, runway, and ramp space going to come from to accomodate everyone needing to fly to NYC (purely for example) in their own little airplane?

I'm not poo-pooing the concept but there's only so much sky and concrete to go around.

Like the East Coast isn't bad enough already!!!!!!!!

The VLJ move really will not increase the GA Fleet so much, the VLJ just takes the market for Piston twins and truboprops. Is more a re-composition of the fleet than an expansion.

Good point ... who then is going to purchase the extra fire trucks and search and rescue teams when the sky is filled with morons?
