By my experience of Gemini, you should expect plenty of unexpected layovers owing to the aeroplane throwing a wobler and going 41.

That's like asking about Fed Ex and UPS. Both very similar. World's fleet is 60% passenger. I don't know if Gemini has any passenger jets.

gemini is cooler than everyone, remember, the best company is the one that hires you-
that being said, gemini has been quite a lifestyle change from my previous life as a corporate pilot, but for the better, I have been places most will never see and spent time in places few can spell! can´t really say what I think of world or atlas or omni kalitta etc. because I dont work for them, but >I have come to the G spot and it is nice... good luck

i would think you had it nice at ups, great pay after year one and stability, a friend of mine is desperate to go brown, has been making a good case for it, the doo doo brown uniform would suck, wait, you were joking, right? sarcasm- hate my life

Your buddy is desperate to go anywhere. If Pinnacle would take him back as an RJ Captain he would be gone.

true story! but he has some valid points about life for us on the road, tell someone about 18 day bid lines or about back to back rotations and their collective jaws will fall to the floor. I cant complain though because I came from nothing, I do however keep an eye open for the hopes of a better tomorrow, and when it happens i will be bringing u along even if you are a check airman or alpa rep!! seriously, 34 straight hurts the woman situation at home, time to make some situations abroad, go stairs!

He has been miserable from day one.

You bid a back to back.

The sky is all ways falling with this guy. Remember back Feb/Mar he was running around saying that Gemini was about to park airplanes and furlough. hmm, hmm.

You guys are so worried about what other people think.

Come, join the darkside, jedi! mia reserve yeah! you know I am right even if you say, "you´re not right"

Gemini Longevity?

Fellas,

I know it's unrelated to the current topic, but I am getting the vibe that I've got a couple of Gemini bubbas here. What is the deal? On airlinepilotcentral.com at the bottom of the Gemini page, it says "longevity currently frozen. all pilots remain at current year of service"....is this sh!t true? I'm hoping that it's not true, because otherwise Gemini looks like a great deal to work for (location, $$$(if not frozen), etc.)

Thanks for the 411

Yes it is true.........

So, fogrunner...what's the deal? Any word on when they will "thaw"(unfreeze) the payscales? Is your union fighting it at all? Sorry to hear it man...good luck to ya!

No. Many rumors. Nothing official.

Yes. However it was part of the CBA that was signed a little over a year ago. (you never get what you want, you get what you negotiate)

New-hires receive 2nd yr pay on their anniversary and are frozen there.

No sarcasm here. UPS sux. You don't want to come here and work for these A-holes.

FreightNazi-

At least you guys have "real" mechanics, and don't have to listen to old crusty F/As b!tch all day long.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, however, sometimes it's directly above a septic tank.

Freight Nazi...

...do you mind me asking what about UPS sux? I guess specifically, because something that might bother one person, wouldn't bother another...

Fly Safe!

What I have heard, the training department is filling an MD11 and DC10 class for around the 24th October.

Last one of the year so they say.........

Hey Tomct email me at home.

World vs Gemini

Hi, I've only been at World a year, but I really like it. I believe the pay is better, there is a retirement plan, profit sharing and home-basing. No reserve anywhere but where you live. $2.40 /hr per diem dom and intl.

And ... no frozen longevity!!. Most guys make around $80K the second year. Captains make $150K or better with the overtime. I also enjoy the mix of flying troops and cargo. Cargo is easier, but sometimes it's nice to have the girls along for the layover.

Just my 2 cents.

How are the contract negotiations going at World? Wasn't a TA voted down earlier this year? Seems like a very interesting company to work for.

Contract negotiations are still going... They meet again next week and from what I gather the company is ready to play ball (heard that before). We've been in the process for over 2 years so a contract is long over due. World has been making record profits for a number of years now and is growing, I think its time for some payback. The TA that was voted down was all the way back in Jan. of 04.

World is still hiring, and will probably continue. I believe the new fleet type will be named shortly after the contract is settled. Management does not and will not merge the NAA and WOA lists... From what I hear the new large aircraft will be flown at WORLD by WORLD pilots. I hope I'm not believeng too much!

Its a great time to get on board. If the rumors are true World will make a great career.

Cheers (back to the Yankee game!)

I don't think so.

I think you will see more classes in the new year.

I interviewed at Gemini this past August. I thought everything went well. But I haven't heard anything back. Not even a rejection letter. I know they sent me for a drug test, called for my FAA records, training records and my credit, but still, nothing. Who do I contact? I am still interested in a job.

You might give HR a call. The same thing happened to me. I interviewed and did the drug test and then didn't hear a thing for a month. Now I'm sitting in class on the MD11. Good luck.
