Interviewed there about a week ago. Just wondering if anyone there knows about how long it takes to hear something one way or the other. They said it would be for a first week of July class. Haven't got the thanks for playing letter yet so I guess I still have a chance.

you usually know with in a week... I'd call if you don't hear anything, they don't freak out about stuff like that, just don't call and leave 10 voice mails!

good luck

Could you give me insights on the interview? I'm going up there next week. Any info would be nice.

It is the easiest and more relaxed, unpretentious interview I've ever done, or heard of anyone doing. Go in yourself, and show them your experience, and your personality. If you're an easy going, professional minded, and experienced pilot it will show, and they'll likely hire you. When you go to this interview, unlike DAL, SWA and others you hear about.. it's your job to lose.

Brent the DO, Matt the CP or Jim the Chief Engineer will all or at least one be in the interview and they're all gentleman and great people. Be yourself and you'll do well.

Thank's for the info. That's what I heard about the interview, but it's hard to believe they are actually that relaxed. Thank's again.

They are. Jim's a prince. Gemini will work your ass off but they're good people.....

I just have to ask you guys. Why are people interrested in working at Gemini? We have a constant stream of people leaving each month, yet we seem to have no end of happy applicants trying to get hired here.
With all the other airlines hiring out there, what makes Gemini your choice? Please try to be specific in your answers. Is it the home basing? Pay? Benefits? Type rating? What do you expect it to be like at Gemini? Do you think you will upgrade here? You start at the bottom of the list, work for a few years, then go somewhere else and start at the bottom of the list again. Why not just skip the first step and start somewhere that you will stay at and build some seniority?
I'm really curious why they come.

At worse it's a good experience for a short while, and at best .. IF things start going well, it's a career..

As you may or may not know, it's not always so easy to land that perfect job, so you apply for a bunch and the one that hires you is the one you make your home, until you loose respect, or interest in it.. or until something much better comes along. So I don't think there is some particular logic to wanting to work at Gemini, unless you're referring to the new requirement by UPS for international experience, in which case I'm sure some ACMI's are seeing a spike in apps, but to be realistic... I doubt that UPS will be hiring much by the time these people get on line, and some time in the airplane anyway.. so that would be a wasted effort in my view.

If you're so miserable why do you continue to work there? If it's better elsewhere go there; Brown is hiring Gemini guys. In my experience, starting with the interview, they treat people like human beings. Yeah, there is always room for improvement but it is night and day versus the regionals. The work schedule to me seems like semi-retirement, home-basing lets me live anywhere I want and not worry about getting to work. You get to work with some really cool guys; great pilot group. Travel the world, see places one would never see otherwise. The MD11 is pretty nice, not so shiny anymore :-) but still a worthy place to work. The BS part that you may/may not have legitimate reason to gripe about is pretty much the same or worse in any job you could imagine.

one more thing; flying boxes is MUCH better than flying people!

I'm sorry if you think that my message was that I'm miserable at Gemini. I'm VERY HAPPY HERE. But I'm a ten year Captain making 125 an hour. I love the job and the people I work with. I feel bad for the FO's making what they make to do this job. They are very underpaid for what they do, in my opinion. I don't see any opporunities for upgrades for new hires here. There's at least 80 to 90 numbers ahead of the bottom guy. That equates to around 10 more airplanes on the property before they upgrade. TheMD-11 is a great airplane, the world travel is a plus, and the home basing is another big plus. I know what I like about the company, I was just asking about what appeals to the new guys coming aboard, that's all. I'll be nice this time, but keep the flaming down, OK?

tj, Fedora is one of our senior CAs who actually CARES about where his company is heading. Like myself, you haven't been here that long, and you don't know the history of the company. Put your self in the shoes of someone who's been there 10 years, and in his late 50's (UPS isn't so practical), that has watched his fleet size halved in his tenure, and watched his management miss opportunity after opportunity to grow it.. He's far more vested in this place than you or I, so try to see it from his view, and not the view of an excited new hire. I was there too, so I'm not judging you, just giving you insight into why some people will have their criticisms. You'll soon be on the line, and you can make up your mind for yourself.

i would like to work at gemini once my training agreemement burns, here's why

1. Get typed in the mad dog-11 as a new hire.
2. Home basing, i never want to move again in my life.
3. Schedule seems to allow for many hobbies or another business.
4. I have freight dog DNA and love going somewhere different everyday
5. UPS/FedEx aren't exactly just handing jobs out.
6. gemini makes you more competitive for such jobs listed above

Thanks LL. That was just the kind of response I was looking for. A realistic view of what you're getting into! All good ponts and valid for coming to work here. Some guys wear their airline jobs list like a badge of honor. "I've had seven" gets beat out by another: "seven? I've got ten!" and then another says 13 and everyone gets quiet!
Huck is right about the pilot group here. They are the best group of pilots I've flown with. The training department is exceptional! (although they've come under attack lately by UPS for not training their pilots fast enough! - It's a joke, OK?) I think anyone that comes here will like it here, I just wish that we would pay the FO's enough to encourage them to stay.
Huck, was that you I saw in DXB the other day sporting that ear to ear smile? It was nice to see you. Good luck, Amigo!

You guys rock! Long live the G spot!

Gimini guys,
I'm looking for someone I used to hangout w/ a bit. It's been awhile, but last I heard he was flying there. He's a big guy, not shy, not a young guy, from the Central Florida area(or was when I knew him), name - Rick D. . Anyone know him or know if he's still there? If so, any help getting in touch would be great.
Thanks, AV8N4Fun

Just had an interview today. And they did the drug test right before they let us go. What is that all about? I was under the impression they do the drug test before they start class?
Any insight?

Flypix, did Gemini talk about any future plans?

Thanks for any information.
cb,
not really. They said expansion is in the works, but they are not sure when and how many. They would like to grow, but it depends on the man with the money.
Are you with Gemini?

Our CEO just put out an email stating that we're in the works on a deal that could get us into some more MD-11's.. not much was given in terms of details, but for him to actually state it, rather than hear it thru the rumor mill is a good sign.

Unfortunately, so are UPS and --perhaps to a lesser extent-- FedEx. I remember back in '05 when I interviewed/went through Indoc "they" were saying the same thing. Maybe they've finally gotten a handle on it...who knows. In any case, it'd take some time to get a conversion slot if they were to get any additional airframes.

Anyone know a pilot working there that has a first name of Rick? He would have been there the past 2 - 3 yrs. Nice guy. Used to live in Central Florida. Thanks, AV8N4Fun

Can anyone tell me what the realistic hiring mins are at Gemini?
3000TT, 1000 PIC turbine is what's listed in our policy manual, although one individual on this site claims to have been hired with zero PIC time.
They are trying to hire folks who aren't "hireable" at other airlines, so that they can retain them here. It is a great chance to gain a lot of experience (albeit SIC time) which can help you later on in your career. Go ahead and apply. It's not a bad place to work, great bunch of flight crewmembers, just not a lot of money.

Hiring runs the gamut. In one recent class there were 3 regional airline check airmen (definitely hirable anywhere). What Gemini do want, though, is people who will stay a while. Whether it is because due to age or qualifications they are unlikely to hire on elsewhere, or because they have a strong interest in doing the kind of flying Gemini does. For those of us who came from the regionals, it was all about quality of life, as the home basing means NO COMMUTING, and not having to spend almost half your "days off" getting to and from work is worth a lot.

Also, and this is a calculated risk career move, should the stated intent of the new owners to grow the airline come to fruition, and crew attrition continue (F/Os especially) at current pace, an upgrade within 5 years or fewer is likely. Big IFs, there, though. Same goes for a contractual improvement in pay in a couple of years. Base your decision on QOL.

Do you want to fly for a company that treats its people pretty well, have reasonable time off in long chunks, see the world, and fly big, modern, well looked after but not necessarily shiny jets? Can your loved ones stand to have you away from home for over two weeks and for the occasional month at a time (perhaps that's what they want!)? Is Gemini enough of an improvement over your previous job that you're not going to wait until that call which may never come from a legacy, Southwest, UPS, etc.?

If you can answer an honest yes to all these questions, you'd probably be happy at Gemini. But if you do come aboard, stick around a while, yeah?

I personally know 3 that were hired with ZERO turbine PIC time. 2 of them into the MD-11. One didn't even have an ATP. I would love to work for a company like GAC. I'm young (relatively), single, want to see the world, and have no problems being out 17+ days straight. I tried when they were hiring in the summer/fall of '05, then again at the end of last year. Sent resumes, had two friends that work there write me letters. Heard nothing.

Thing is, I have no PIC time, lots of glass/FMS SIC, just no PIC. I would think they would ACTUALLY like that, because I would not be able to go anywhere anytime soon.
