jetblue (tm) has an aggressive plan to launch the 190 and continue a rapid acquisition of A-320s. (In fact new 320s are scheduled to come in slightly greater numbers than the 190s) But where are they going to put them?

How are they going to get gates if the most sought after gates are all occupied and hard to come by. See article below. Will jetblue (tm), with a partner or two, bid on USAir's assets? Not a flame, I just don't know the plan.

I hear DFW has some gates needing a home.

Southwest CEO says keeping options open on US Air
Wed Jun 8, 2005 09:26 AM ET
NEW YORK, June 8 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines Co. on Wednesday said it was considering bidding for some assets of US Airways Group Inc., which is slated to be bought by America West Holdings

America West's proposed takeover of bankrupt US Airways, announced last month, would create the sixth-largest domestic airline and a leading discount carrier rivaling Southwest.

"We're going to keep all of our options at this point," Southwest Chief Executive Gary Kelly said in a presentation to analysts at a conference sponsored by Merrill Lynch & Co. "I wouldn't discount the thought of making a bid."

But he made clear that Southwest's interest would be in some of US Airways' gates -- in particular at the Philadelphia airport where Southwest is having trouble finding space to expand -- rather than the whole airline.

The bankruptcy judge overseeing US Airways' Chapter 11 case has authorized the airline to consider any bids that would rival the proposed America West deal. So far, the proposal by America West and a group of investors is the only one that has been negotiated.

Kelly said he was not worried about potential competition from the combined US Airways and America West, though he still hopes the tie-up could result in a reduction in excess capacity in the loss-plagued U.S. airline system.

"While we enjoy a very large cost advantage with respect to both of those carriers ... I am hopeful that the acquisition results in some reduction of capacity," he said.

Southwest, the top U.S. airline by market value, is one of the industry's few money makers, thanks largely to investments it has made that have protected it from soaring fuel prices.

I know that JB and the NYPA are supposed to come to an agreement on Terminal 5 in JFK (old TWA terminal) by mid to late June. The plans that JB has shown us are impressive. The plan is to preserve the TWA part (its a historical landmark) and build further out and around it. In BOS, we have 5 gates now and are adding one new gate every 6 months for the next 3 years for a total of 11. That makes BOS almost as big as JFK today by 2008. Rumor has it this will be a crew base sometime late 2006.

As far as other airports, I dont really know. Im pretty sure that there are alot of communities and airports that would love to see a LCC land at their airport though.

I am getting pretty tired of Kelly spouting off about all the excess capacity when his airline is the one responsible for it.

I think this color suites you much better. You should think about using it more.

Now to answer your question. Until the new terminal is built at JFK, B6 will likely open Newark and Islip to take some of the heat off gate space. To the South, it's my guess that MIA will come on line by the season and PBI will grow quite a bit. In addition, the FAA will probably step in at FLL and open the diagonal runway and short parallel runway to remove some congestion from 9L. I would also bet that IAD will be another expansion opening if and when FLYi runs out of money. It is my guess that GECAS will shut them down when that happens, as I believe the break they gave them on the leases includes the return of a/c before an 11 filing.

That means the exact opposite of this will happen.

Was talking to a jetBlue jumpseater. He mentioned that USAirways/AWA was going to fly the 190s for jetBlue

Did he request any monetary compensation for this info?

What gates are available in EWR?

The airport authority states that if a new entrant wants into EWR, they will find them a gate either through a request to sub lease an underutilized gate from a long term leasee, or they will try and fit them into Terminal B in between International arrivals. Then there is always the possibility that FLYi and US Airways may give up gate space at some point. B6 would probably only operate 7 or 8 flts per day at the beginning.
