"Gate Pass" BS! Hassle to Jumpseaters

This crap is going too far.. Now passengers can't get through security with an E-ticket itinerary. They have to go to the gate and get a boarding pass..

How can you go to the gate and get a BP without getting thru the morons at the checkpoint?

Everyone has to go to the ticket counter if you can't download a boarding pass on-line, or use a kiosk.

The main problem is a lack of standardization, local policies being implemented by power trip managers without approval of their superiors. Take TYS for example, one day Flight crew go to the front of the line, then the next day a new "policy" Flight crew line up with every one else, why? Because it is not "fair" that flight crew go to front of the line. So we block out thirty late for security delay. If the crew cannot get to the gate, then what is the point of security? There will be an airplane there, but no crew to fly it. Perhaps that is what they want, very low threat if the airplane cannot move.

This is a good one that happened to me a couple of days ago. I am based in city A. I am traveling to city B, where I will be picked up by car. However, I have about 3 hours to kill in city B. We have crew domicile in city B. Therefore we have a crew lounge in City B. I have in my locker in city A, an item that may or may not be allowed thru screening. It has been there since prior to Sep 11. I now need to transport said item to city B. No problem getting it on the flight since it is already inside "security". The flight into city B arrives at terminal Y. Our crew lounge is in terminal Z. Not wanting to wait out on the curb for 3 hours, I ask a TSA supervisor at terminal Y (while still inside the "secure" area) if said item can be taken thru screening. He says that yes they are allowed. OK, cool, I will go outside "security" and walk to terminal Z and go thru "security" and go kick back in the crew lounge. Get to "security" at terminal Z and put my stuff on the xray belt. As I thought would happen they wanted to look at said item, which is fine. I told them what the supervisor said at the other terminal said about the item. They were about to let me go on my way when a TSA guy come storming up and said that item cant go thru screening. Ok, let me talk to a supervisor please. THey send the manager over to talk to me. He says Can you wait a few minutes or is your flight leaving right now. Oh i say, I am not going on a flight, I am just going to hang out in our crew lounge for a few hours. Oh, he says, as he hands me the item, here you go, sorry for delaying, have a nice day!

This seems to work for STL commuters. I grabbed a bunch of SWA jumpseat forms and use them to get threw security on the AA side. Even though, Im planning on riding on AA, you can still walk to SW terminal and tell them that I am rather then taking the bus. Seems to work so far.

There are 9 airports that the TSA is experimenting with pax having to get a gate pass in lieu of having the random check at the gate. If you don't like it write your Congressman. Cheers.
