I have a Garmin GPS 45 and I'm having problems getting it to track Sats. It is acquiring Sats, but is not locking on to them. I've tried new batteries, an external 12v power source, checked the antenna, and used an external Garmin Antenna. I've tried contacting the folks at Garmin, and tried what they suggested but still "no joy". If anyone that has used or has any experience with this type GPS please let me know. Please feel free to email me at ([email protected]) with any or your suggestions. Thanks anything would be helpful.

I had the exact problem with my Garmin when I bought it used from a friend. I took it to a local dealer I found on their website and they had to ship it off to reprogram the entire unit and update the database. Got it back about a week later and it worked just fine, though I was out about $120 for the repair. Dunno what the problem is but havent had a single problem since.

I used to have a 45, my recommendation, buy a new gps. You can find them on ebay for sometimes less then 200 bux, with 12 channel recievers, and some good features.

I own a 295 now and flying skydiver and xc, I would rather cut off my left arm (I need the right for the throttle) than give it up.

If you can't afford a new gps, then try this.. go stand out in the middle of a large field, enter the mode on the gps that lets you select the your current location, get it as close as possible, see if that does it.. If not, then the previous poster may have the best solution. Basically that gps can only get one sat at a time.. and if it thinks they are somewhere that they aren't, it has a tough time. I took mine to belgium once, I left it on for about 3 hours before it finally sync'd up.

Good luck

Brian
