I also like that they removed the lower left/right panes and moved those to the sidebar as widgets. Better view of the terrain info.

The tapes just seem wider and when in split-screen I think that compresses the PFD content a bit. Have to find some videos to check again. (Edit: I may be wrong, looking at a G3X picture again they look the same. Yeah, I need go get flying again soon! Still too hot!)

With the SD card slot gone, replaced by a USB-C port. I wonder how updates are done for those that don't use Garmin Pilot? Will you need a laptop at the airplane now to transfer files? Internet connection required? Curious...

This video shows the older (or different) style engine gauge presentation which I prefer vs. what I'm seeing in other videos. Interesting you can change it, I assume...

USB-C flash drive. Installation manual para 5.2.7. Same as before but may need new storage media.

What has changed significantly is that data logs can no longer be pulled from an unpowered display. Now needs display to be powered and use of the log export interface. Far less convenient for those used to simply swapping the SD card. Installation manual para 5.9.1.

I need to read the manuals (skim them) as I believe it also has more wireless functionality for data transfer. I like the thumb drive concept, the data log issue is minor to me. I'm just hoping they aren't making people pay for Garmin Pilot to enjoy new features of this unit as many like me prefer ForeFlight. I tried Garmin Pilot for a year, didn't care for it.

SiriusXM is not included as we have it in our GDU-465's and I think Garmin started phasing out the 465's sometime ago yet CubCrafters was still able to source them or had sufficient supply. From what I've learned from a friend, with the AXIS you would need a GDL 51R and after the beginning of the year an update may be coming to allow you to control it from the AXIS unit. While I have SiriusXM and am subscribed, I rarely use it and would probably just bluetooth music in if I wanted to listen to something. It's amazing going across the country I had decent cellular most of the way even at altitude. I do enjoy the music with the GMA-245R as it has nice enhancements for music and the Bose A20's sound nice as well.

Interesting learning, looking forward to @Cactus Charlie's install :)

For those with forward looking camera's you'd need to consider how the RCA connector is going to convert and connect into the HDMI port that now exists. You can get a converter, I think it would need 12V power.

Got you covered @Tsquared so you can do your upgrade now :) Let us know how it works!
🤣. I’ll get right on that… right after I win the lotto.

I'm confident there will be G3X Touch software updates in the future.

"We are continuing to build, sell and support G3X Touch. It is not being EOL’d as a result of the release of AXIS. We are currently turning the crank to release G3X Touch version 10.00."
