Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out this Garmin 530 GPS deal.

What I can't figure out is how do you display ETE (in real time) for your entire route, not just the next fix. I want to know how long it's going to take me to arrive at my destination, not just the next fix along the route.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks,

Jim

On the first or second nav page, hit MENU, select change data fields, and trip ETE should be one of the options.

You also should be able to find it by default, when you hit FPL.

Bingo! The easiest way is to just push the "FPL" button which is Flight Plan mode, and on the right side the 530 display should list the time to each waypoint you have programmed into your flight plan including your destination.

Also, I recommend taking a look at the material Jeid Nein has prepared on the Garmin units.

Jim:

If you haven't figured it out yet you can change the fields on both the NAV 1 & 2 Pages. To do this you hit the menu button and go to "change data fields". To move the cursor to the field you want to change use the large outer knob on the right to move the cursor then turn small inner knob to change that field. A list of items you can put in that field comes up, just scroll down and change to ETA instead of ETE. Usually I will put ETE on the primary NAV page I am using and ETA on the other NAV page so I can switch between the two. Hope this helps...

I'm having a problem with the procedures. I will load and activate an ILS approach for a particular airport, and for some reason, well it's hard to explain but i'm sure somebody knows what I'm talking about, it'll put the airport, then the IAF in the flight plan. So instead of say, 25 miles to destination, it'll show like 50 to the destination. Because it'll have me going to the airport first, then to the IAF, etc. So I tried to remove the airport from the flight plan page, but that doesn't work because then it won't switch waypoints automatically like it's supposed to. Weird... I'm probably one of those D.A.O's.. thanks!

When you activate the approach, the GPS usually gives you a choice of initial fix to fly to. If you select "vectors to final" it should sequence you on the approach from your current position. If that doesn't work for you, you should be able to highlight the cursor on the fix you want to go to and either select Direct or hit Menu and select "activate this leg". Hope that helps.

Yea, no matter if I hit vectors to or select an IAF, doesn't matter... strange, I'll have to look at the book when I get a chance.

Thanks

It's operator error. Try the link in my post above. It will lead you to all the answers you need.

It should be, I agree, but it is not. It will only show ETE to the next waypoint. Sorry. The FPL method is only way I know of. If you are lucky enough to have two Garmin 530's, then leave the FPL page on number 2.

When you load an approach, it will put the approach after the airport waypoint and you correct that the total trip ETE will then be incorrect. Just look at the ETE to the airport, and it will be more accurate (but still not perfect, since it is not sequenced over the approach waypoints)

When you *activate* the approach, although the airport will still be before the approach in the FPL page, you will be either direct the IAF or "vectors to final" and the total ETE to the missed approach waypoint will be accurate since you are no longer sequenced over the airport. Again, you can't just look at the last ETE on the FPL pages since that ETE will actually be to the missed approach holding fix.

To answer your original question, you ned to do two things. First on the Flight Plan page you need to change the field to cumulative distance. THen you need to make the other Field "ETE". This will now give you your estimated time enroute for the entire trip and to each waypoint. To find out how long it is going to take to get to your destination, scroll down the flight plan page to your destination and the ETE will give you this time.
