Ok, I am going to relate D'Angelo's ID-90 to the usual scene at the gate:
1. Most jumpseaters are given a BP by the gate thanks to Ops. We in the cockpit usually don't find out who the jump flies for until they get out to the plane and ask permission to ride.
2. If the Captain says no, then you aren't riding! You get your a$$ back to the gate!
3. Now tell me, at this point, what makes you think whipping out your stupid ID-90 is going to make a difference? The gate agents don't HAVE to do ANYTHING! You are the lowest of the low, being offline. Chances are, accomodating you at that point would hold up the flight. Chanced are, you aren't going on that aircraft anyway! The gate agents are going to have a field day with you, they aren't scared by some self-righteous, guy with an entitlement attitude! We treat our own non-revs bad as it is, sadly, would love to see how they handle you.
I have never seen anyone denied the jump because of politics, maybe it's just because of where I'm based. However, as an F/O I sure as hell know it's the captains decision and what he/she says goes. I don't know any captain who'd even let you on with an ID-90 after the fact. Have fun whining at the gate while the aircraft taxiis away. I do however, support those who are willing to stand up for what they believe in, denying the jumpseat in this case.
D'Angelo...Maybe show us all your picture so we can see you coming in advance.
