November 29, 2005 Flight prices could double
<LI type=square>Passengers at Yeager would pay more
By Eric Eyre
Staff writer Flight prices from Charleston’s Yeager Airport might double early next year if bankrupt low-cost airline Independence Air shuts down and no discount carrier takes its place.
Airport executive director Rick Atkinson and Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper told Charleston-area business leaders Monday afternoon that Independence would likely be liquidated or auctioned to the highest bidder next month in bankruptcy court. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
“This is a big deal,” Carper said at Monday’s meeting of the Charleston Area Alliance, an economic development group. “We have got to do something.”
Denver-based Frontier Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways of Norwalk, Conn., are two potential buyers of struggling Independence Air, Atkinson said, citing airline industry sources.

Normally I'd blow this off, but given the high level of intel...the President of the Kanawha County Commission.....
