Seriously, you're not helping your cause. Just leave it alone and learn when to print something and when not to. It is great that you love your new airline. That is wonderful. But, you stated that you wanted oil to push $100 a barrel so that everyone else could parish, and that would leave Southwest alone. You are trying to twist that around now, and you still look bad. Let it go and go study some flows or something....

Bye Bye--General Lee
You win General. I guess that's what you want to hear. Good luck...

I'm doing just fine by myself. If you would just read the posts you would understand. If pushing oil to $100 is what would keep SWA from furloughing anyone at the expense of other airlines than so be it. I don't wish ill will toward you or anyone but SWA employees are number 1 priority. I would rather see 10,000 Delta employees lose their job than 1 southwest employee. I'm sorry but that's business. If attacking US Air at their hubs and putting them under is what the SWA execs. is the best course of action for SW then I am behind them 110%. When there is no other recourse to help your own airline when fuel hedges run out then you have to hope it pushes higher and harms the competition before that hedge runs out. Fortunately, SW execs. don't allow their airline to be controlled by anything but themselves and they don't have to think like that. You hope things will work out for your own and not at the expense of others but business is business.

You seem to have a keen insight on the operation at WN. How long have you been a SWA employee?

I could send you my post grad thesis on SWA if you would like but that was a few years ago. Pre-GK days. It doesn't take a doctorate to see GK is much more aggressive than his predecessor. However, the current times clearly dictates such a stance. See Sun Tzu for that explanation.

It's based on the Harvard Business Case, "Investing in Relationships" which turned into the successful business book, "The Southwest Airlines Way." Basically, how relationships with the company's unions and frontline supervisors may actually be more important to its success than the operational focus for which it is so well known. An important point that is lost with managers and employees at other companies and industries.

But I'm sure you were being sarcastic since I haven't started there yet.

The furloughees were not pilots.

Sorry, have to disagree. SWA actually did furlough a few pilots, but they were imediately recalled after a few weeks... happened sometime in the 70s.

It is also a little known fact that SWA operated 727s for a short time in the 70s or 80s.

Both true, the furloughees were recalled when the pilot group agreed to take a pay cut before furloughs ... that ever happen anywhere else? (I honestly don't know - no chest thumping here). I do think that it sucks that many great jobs are on the verge of being lost - but most of us seem pretty sure it is going to happen ... In the mean time the industry suffers the effects of too many seats chasing too few butts. The thing that really make me mad about it is that the high paid buffoons who put these airlines in the crapper walk away with millions of dollars and the competent hard working employees, loose their jobs (not to mention the lion's portion of their pensions).
Call me crazy but I think the company should be forced to liquidate before the employees loose one dime of their pensions. I guess the law isn't written that way but what did Dave Seagul do to deserve almost 5 million (in two years) while labor loses everything. If it was up to me USAIR would already be gone, but at least the people that worked there would have something to show for it ...

Tailwinds and full loads to all ...

I can understand your talk about "my company is better than everyone elses...." I really can. I just thought your "Hopefully oil will go to $100 a barrel and everyone else will fail, leaving Southwest alone" remark and the "Southwest is the best airline for pilots..." remark being kind of self centered. You have no clue what everyone else wants. I prefer longer flights with some INTL flavor every once and a while. Some people like night freight because airports and traffic are less of a hassle. Some people like 6-7 legs a day. Everyone is different, and that is the point. Don't be so assured that "Southwest is the BEST airline for pilots." That was the remark that ticked many of us off. To you maybe, but not everyone else. Tailwinds.....

I agree with the General, DH2WN has a TOOL attitude.
I for one would only apply to Southwest as my last resort. Not only the type of flying and airplane is not appealing, but also I don't like the idea that you have to buy your own type, talk about PFT.

SWA is a good company and I respect what they've accomplished, but your trash talk is a bit over the top from some one who hasn't set foot on the property as an employee yet.
