Is there any reluctance on the part of Southwest to hire furloughees, specifically United furloughees? I am strongly considering getting the 737 type and pursuing employment with SWA, but I have heard that SWA may look skeptically at a furlougheed pilot (specifically UAL furloughees). Anyone have some response to this. Are there any UAL furloughees out there that have gained employment with SWA and have some input. Any words of wisdom strongly appreciated!

Some furloughed and active AA guys have jumped over and they say it isn't a problem. Us long-term FO's have trouble with low PIC as we haven't had the chance to upgrade. I did the type at K&S in April and was happy although I'd be happier with an interview.... as would all of us waiting for the chance.

I am a United cast off and now am working for Southwest. Best thing that ever happened to me was being tossed to the street. The folks here have been nothing but wonderful. I have yet to run into anyone who holds my former employer against me. However, be ready to answer the "why did you go to X airline in 19xx, when we were hiring (at your interview) I still have many friends at UAL and wish them well. If I was you I would walk, no run to the nearest type rating facility and get that type. Good luck

My class last march had furloughed guys from UAL, US Air, and Continental. I also know of guys from AMR who have come over.

I've flown with captains here who were furloughed AA, DAL, TWA, U, and pretty much every carrier that's gone under in the last 20 years.

Just be able to explain how you ended up taking the path you took and why you're applying here now.
