As I was looking over the FedEx website, I came across their fuel surcharge table. It seems that they are actually passing on their increased expenses to the consumer. What a smart business move. And it actually fluctuates, as to not disrupt the profit margin that they have set for themselves. Bravo FedEx.

This fuel surcharge does not apply to FedEx International Express FreightSM (IXF) and FedEx® International Airport-to-Airport (ATA) services.
The FedEx Express fuel surcharge for IXF and ATA services is based on chargeable weight. See the IXF and ATA fuel surcharge.

The fuel surcharge rate for FedEx Ground services applies to both U.S. and international shipments. Effective January 3, 2005, the surcharge percentage for FedEx Express services will be subject to monthly adjustments based on a rounded average of the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) spot price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel. Effective February 7, 2005, the surcharge percentage for FedEx Ground services will be subject to monthly adjustment based on a rounded average of the national U.S. on-highway average price for a gallon of diesel fuel. Fuel Surcharge Updates
Changes to the FedEx Express and FedEx Ground fuel surcharges will be applied effective the first Monday of each month. The surcharge percentage will be reflected on your FedEx invoice. Information on the fuel surcharge for each month will be available approximately two weeks before the surcharge is applicable.

• For FedEx Express, see the USGC index for the spot price per gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel.
• For FedEx Ground, see the on-highway index for the price of a gallon of diesel fuel.
• The prices in these indexes are published by the U.S. Department of Energy and FedEx is not responsible for the information provided.
