What kind of runway requirements do you have? What is your range on the first leg?

I'd use either Salina, KS or Ponca City, OK. One thing to remember about Oklahoma is that there are no taxes on your fuel so if the prices are the same it is actually cheaper to go there. Great quick turns at either, but I like the service better at PNC. It cuts the trip in half so it makes for a nice break and leg stretch.

I used to fly a WW out of HIO and went to FL a few times a year.

I used to figure out a great circle and stop anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 down the road. Wherever had the cheapest fuel and the best WX was where I stopped.

Most of the time it was Salinas as that was about 1/2 way and the turns were quick.

I've used Salina quite a bit with good experiences. We also had to do a last-minute change-of-fuel-stop a couple of weeks ago, and ended up getting fuel in North Platte, NE (KLBF). They turned us around amazingly fast, including a lav service, and we were on our way in no time. Not sure how the fuel prices compare to Salina, but in every other aspect, North Platte was fantastic. (Might be a little out of the way for PDX-FLL, but keep it in mind for future fueling needs.)

Yingling at ICT is good, so is Midwest Corp. Aviation at AAO.

I'd give another vote for Salina. The fact that it has a Tower is nice, in case you need to hold your clearance to the ground. I don't remember if you can reach KC Center on the ground at Ponca (I think you can), but we all know the LOVELY service we get from the IMPROVED FSS system these days. ICT and AAO are nice, as mentioned above, but right now at ICT we're down to one runway and it can be a little bit of wait at the end of the runway sometimes; also, SLN and PNC don't have the airspace mess to worry about that ICT/AAO do.

I know a little bit father SE is Fayettville, AR (FYV?), which we've been into a few times. I believe they have a Million Air on the field, IIRC, and we were always treated well there.

Not sure about that, but, judging by my stop there today, they ceased having hot girls there! D'oh!
