I read this message board regularly, and learn a lot from it. I am on Furlough, commanded by wife and economy. Plane is mothballed, so therefore, am I.

I read about FS, and have a computer, and joystick, so I went out and bought FS2002. It was on sale.

I downloaded some planes, a 337 like I have. Then I said, crap, let's get a real plane. Downloaded a JetStar. If I had the money for a CJ-X, I'd buy a JetStar instead. It's my fantasy, I can fly what I want.

So, I flew AZO to MDW. Something I have done a lot, real life. To date, I have crashed on landing 2x, torn up the buildings at the end, 1X, during takeoff. Not a successful flight in the group. I figure that the visual cues aren't there, the joystick is new experience to me, etc, etc, but, is this stuff anything like real??

Any tips for doing better, other than practice? I mean, in real, I didn't have a successful landing for a while. At least, that's what I told my self after wiping out the tower last night :D :D

Thanks

Oh, and has anyone flown a JetStar? This is a cool plane. What does it compare to, if anything.

If I were you, I would go to Jetstar Initial and Type School at Flight Safety. They could most certainly be of help with both takeoffs and landings.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Giz,
Are you the super moderator of this forum? Last I saw was that this is the general forum, and that this post is aviation related. I've read some of 337's threads before and thought he brought out some good info and had credible questions to ask. Let people post what they want, we're all pilots who talk about lots of things aviation related. You maybe should chill a little.

Thanks, it does.
Unfortunately, they don't offer scholarships, so, have to pass for now.
Thanks Swass,nice words
Giz, pointers in a direction
Les,
Thanks, It is a complicated game, it's not at all like a real airplane, or even a full motion simulator (got to fly the 737 over at WMU, that's cool), but it whiles the time.

Yes the FEEL is not there but everything else is! MSFS has so many useful tools and addons it has earned its keep. I've owned every version since 4.0 and watching its growth has been amazing. From the visiual and wx effects of 2004 to the some of the state of the art add ons. If your familiar with boeing glass cockpits I recommend Wilco's 767 PIC. Every button and switch works, from aligning the IRS, initailizing and programing the FMS and engine start, cross blead start its all there. The auto pilot is super, full auto land, GPWS with altitude call outs, working TCAS.

It does take a while to get the "feel" of flying a pc. It does have some feel by that I don't mean that you can feel the true wieght of the controls. The more advanced fly dynamics espcially fs2002 and later are quite real in there reponse to control inputs. For example a 767 does feel heavy and a C172 is quite responsive.

Some say its a game, it is fun, but I know I saved alot of time and money on my flight training because of it.

No one is trying to be a "super moderator."
I am pointing him to an area on the net, that specializes on flight sim's. I post on avsim daily, and there are 10's of thousands of daily posters with tips/tricks/hints/ you name it for every flight simulator game. I was assuming he hadn't heard about these sites....so I was pointing him in that direction.:D
